Just wondering if anybody else has my collecting habits? basically wether it be a charity shop or carboot sale I would buy anything and everything game related until my money ran out. but now I have become more fussy and don't bother doing that unless it is a real bargain. i don't know if it is beaus fault for boosting prices people think they are worth or what. or the fact I now only collect boxed N64 stuff and good nick stuff too as I don't bother with eBay anymore due to time WAISTERS , ebays stupid postage valuations they seemed to think 7 loose carts would only cost me £3.00 to post. for instance now I properly check discs and what not and if they miss the instructions I don't bother and if they are badly scratched I don't bother. i just don't buy carts anymore and I hate crushed boxes and I just walk buy them unless they are priced at £1.00 people are asking £50.00 for N64 console on car boots sales unboxed and just silly prices. dunno just maybe my little rant of the day but I just can't be bothered being left with a load of loose , damaged or filthy items.
I hate buying anything that is in poor condition no matter what it is. I look after my stuff well. Probably because I grew up in Liverpool from the mid 70s all the way through the 80's when Liverpool really was a poor city. Back then you really did look after your stuff because getting another wasn't easy.
I'm the same way as Yakumo when it comes to taking care of my things. Growing up with a lot of siblings that destroy things makes one appreciate and cherish something for all its worth. But on the topic, if it's dirt cheap, the condition won't be a deal breaker for me if it's in working order. But if I'm paying a hefty sum, it had better be in good shape.
Yeah basically as a child I had nothing as I was in and out of foster care. so I'm basically making up for it now. so I buy stuff I didn't have or could not afford , I had N64 with about 5 games but that was in 1998 when I had a job and could buy stuff myself. i always look after my own stuff maybe too much perhaps , which is why I hate it when you see stuff in such bad condition. dont get me wrong I have had some amazing bargains on carboot sales but recently the price people ask especially for nintendo stuff is terrible .
There's nothing worse than some arse hole asking a lot of cash for something that's in really poor condition then some idiot actually paying for it.
I was brought up that way, to look after what you get. It's not a matter of "just buy another one" as money doesn't come back as quick as breaking something. Take good care of all my games, consoles and controllers (I now do with controllers before I'd rage with them as a kid and teen). It also bothers me seeing a console in bad condition and I end up just fixing them and giving them a new home.
I try and pick up what I can complete in box now as well, otherwise I find I'm just replacing stuff constantly. I've actually gone through a heap of my games to try find things that need replacing... still have a whole bunch to try go through though. Thing that annoys me, people that list stuff on eBay as "mint" and "collectors condition" then when it arrives, turns out its actually worthless rubbish, far from mint, rips/tears/broken bits and especially when they inadequately post it!! One person posted a console by just wrapping a bit of brown paper over just 4 sides of the box. Yes, 4. Then when I said it arrived damaged they said "it was like that in the photos" - no it wasn't buddy, you're a muppet. Another person posted a PlayStation console and games without bubble wrap in a bag - guess how they arrived? So now I just stick to listings (be it facebook, eBay, forums) that show multiple photos of every single part of the game/console etc. or work with other collectors/contacts instead.
Yes I know exactly how you feel , especially with eBay , I buy games due to the box condition and have gone through my games looking for box imperfections so if an empty box ever turns up in mint shape I will buy it. also people whom send N64 and Snes games in Jiffy bags need help. but then it is ebays fault as they only let you charge £3.00 per game. but I do ask sellers before hand about sending them in a box. for instance I recently won a action replay pro for the N64 complete with video tape and box , now bear in mind the box is the height of about 3 n64 boxes on the auction it looked great and what does it arrive in? a Jiffy bag . just mind boggling as I send stuff the way I would like to get it in with loads of bubble wrap and boxed. even if they had the sense to flat pack the boxes and send them in a jiffy. i was brought up sort of if you have something you had to fight to keep it , not fight in the sense of fusty cuffs I mean you had to lock your room up before going out and what not. and I'm sort of still like that now. some people's attitude is yeah but I will just buy another if it breaks , but that's not the point as it is not hard to look after stuff. for instance my friend got a xbox 360 when they came out as did I , now I dusted mine every day and had it sitting flat and I went through 14 xbox 360 . he was a chain smoker had his console vertical and it had fell over many times and the console went yellow and the fans blocked with filth and he spilt Pepsi all over it. it is the original from 2006 and still works LOL!
Every game I buy has to be complete with box and instructions and in good shape too, I never buy NES/SNES/N64/Gameboy if the box is beat up, and for all my games in cardboard box's I use plastic boc protectors and for the really rare or expencive stuff I buy VGA cases with the sliding bottom not the sealed kind. For DVD size games like Gamecube PS2 I use these thin dust protector packets. Maby it's OCD LOL but I like to keep my games in top condition.
Im currently doing the same with my N64 stuff , also there is a guy whom does protective cases for the n64 console too. is there any place that sells empty original xbox green cases and gamecube cases?
I have been looking out for Gamecube cases myself for a few months now without any luck, im sure some will come up somtime because I have found new unused dreamcast and ps1 box's.
I take really good care of my stuff, because as a child i didn't have much. I've always taken care of my games, and i usually never leave games in a console. As far as collecting, i try to collect only sega genesis games that are in the case. Same with tg-16/PCE games. They don't need to be in the cardboard box, but i atleast try and look for the case.
Yeah, I'm pretty OCD with my collecting as well. I'd also buy a nice cart only over a "complete" with crushed box any day. I developed a "no lending" policy after I've been burned too many times, getting stuff back all scratched up.
I did go through a phase of being overly OCD with regards to collecting at one point; only buying mint games all had to be complete, then sealed games x2 copies one to open and the other to play. I eventually got tired of it, now I just focus on playing.
I can't stand when people throwing out Snes boxes. I can't stand console box is getting fucked and teared up. I like having completed box set like a day 1 out of factory. not half ass missing stuff. I hate seeing dirty consoles on ebay and filthy controls. I truly fucking hate when sellers put RARE on every fucking title list they have and bid themself to rip off others. I was brought up by both parents who raised me to be clean and tidy. Also respect your property and others people property. That all I know.
When I was growing up, I was not as careful with my games as I am now. I would often throw away boxes or put them in a closet somewhere and forget them. I was pretty rough on discs, too - very often I'd leave tons of loose discs lying around tables and cabinets. It took a while, but now I'm very careful with all of my games. I keep all of my disc-based games in their original boxes when I'm not playing them. I generally don't collect boxes of cart-based games (with a few exceptions), simply because the difference in price kills it for me. But the condition of carts matters to me. I'm not obsessed with every game I buy being in perfect condition, but I prefer to buy games in very good condition (when money allows). When I was a kid, my parents somehow convinced me that once I got a new console, I didn't need the old one or its games anymore. To the current-day me, this is absurd - but at the time it was hard to argue, especially since selling the older consoles allowed me to buy new stuff. However, I have managed to retain a few things over the years. I still have several Genesis games that I bought new when they were released. I still have a CIB Vectorman copy that was sitting in a crate in my closet for many years. It came in one of those incredibly fragile cardboard boxes. It's not in perfect condition, but it's mostly intact - and the fact that it exists at all and that it's not just a pile of shredded cardboard by now still amazes me. I managed to keep my Earthworm Jim 2 (Genesis) box for a long time too, but it mysteriously vanished a few years ago. I still have the cart.
never had too be asked too keep my room clean,i was always neat and tidy. But yeah with the games and systems ...there is a great pride in my collection and how its handled.Icant say i have OCD but i know where everything is and try too keep the dust bunnies at bay. A cool topic and enjoyed reading every ones post.ANd glad too know iam not alone in the world with my love for games. No matter what condition i recive a game ,controller or console ..i take it apart and clean it.
