I've seen a partial growing up, but haven't seen a full. There is one going right through the US on August 21st. I have about a 4 hour drive to get the best view. Just booked a hotel room for the wife and dogs. Should make a nice mini vaca. It may seem premature to start planning, but many hotels I checked on were sold out already.
Man, you must really love your dogs to spoil them like that! For real though - I'll feel it out as we get closer but eclipses are special events
So I made the smart choice to stare at a solar eclipse (half covered eclipse) for about a minute because I like seeing the coloured spots it leaves behind. There were black spots on my eyes for 2 weeks (thankfully it wasn't the worst) afterwards. Since then I avoid looking even in the general direction of the sun, so I will likely not be partaking this time.
It's quite safe to observe it through one of those hand made boxes with a filter or via LCD panel on a camera.
But wheres the fun in that? Don't you want to see it for yourself with your own eyes? This was my thought process before I almost did permanent damage.
In all seriousness, why? I've never understood why anyone in modern times would give a crap about something like this.
I'm going to activate my Behelit when it happens.... That said you guys want to come to a party at my place that day.......
I can't answer for others, but I simply like to photograph events that aren't too common. To each their own I suppose.
Because it's a rare event and looks awesome? Simple answer is - they enjoy it. Just like people enjoy sunrises and sunsets, which happen daily. Why do people collect dire old games? Usually because they're rare, not to actually play them. Why do people prefer retro consoles to modern ones? Because they're tired of the same old crap (much like sunrises and sunsets), probably... or because basic things are sometimes most enjoyable.
