Im here to vent! So some of you may recall this auction. I was the high bidder before it got canned (twice) by ebay. I offered the seller some money for it, and all total the whole thing came to 386$. Needless to say this was a lot of money, but the lure of a Biohazard Saturn beta was enough to satisfy my curiosity. So skip forward a bit, I received it. I can tell something is up with this when I try to boot the beta, it wont. So I take it to my PC and come to find that someone who made it put all the CD's data inside a folder called /saturn/. So this is why it wouldnt boot. So before I put any more effort into it I pulled out my saturn RE releases, and a Saturn beta I bought from a german seller a couple months back. I run a file compare on all them and to my shock, the German beta and this one are a 100% match. Now, I begin to worry that the German guy is selling copies of his beta. So I do some investigative work...It turns out that the Original disc had quite the journey.. It was sold on ebay to an undisclosed winner. However, once the auction ended one of the bidders who lost offered the seller 40$ if he would sell him a copy of the disc. The seller agreed and made a copy of the beta, and also send the original to the main auction winner. A few months later the originals new owner contacts me, offering to sell it to me. I say yes, and pay him. Soon after its in my posession. I run file compares and yes indeed, it is different. So all is good.. until... The bidder who lost, but was sold a copy of the beta beings to have trouble with the copy. So thinking that he can make it work again by re-burning it, He seeks an official Saturn CDR and finds one on ebay. He purchases it, and then proceeds to make a backup himself. However, since he doesnt know much he screws up. He rips the copies contents into a folder he named /saturn/. he then burns the data, WITH THE SATURN FOLDER STILL THERE onto the Saturn CDR. It wont boot, and he wonders why. He finally gives up and offers the Saturn CDR for sale as a Beta of Biohazard along with a PSY-Q system. I, not knowing that this is just a copy (and an improperly burned one at that) purchase it for a large sum. So I just payed $386.00 for a copy of a beta, to which I own the original. Needless to say: OH: OH: OH: OH: OH: OH: OH: OH: OH: OH: I did get a PSY-Q, and its manual out of this but thats hardly going to cover the amount I paid for this :-( To top this off, also this week I was offered an RE4 "Press Beta". Turns out its a freaking HK bootleg!! $130 down the drain there, but I'm fighting with paypal to get that back.
Should've kept quite and sold that beta on ebay ;-) by just saying its a Biohazard beta that won't boot....
I agree with you but then it would not have been nice to keep quiet the non-booting problem for the potential new buyer... Though I feel sorry for you Dot50cal, that's one thing that would made me angry to buy twice the same thing. Maybe a little hacking by a saturn expert could help you boot it. At least this time you got the dev hardware with the beta. Is there a chance that the beta required a boot cartridge to work, I never heard of that in the case of the saturn, though we know this techniques has been by Nintendo for the 64 DD and didn't the M2 required a PC card into to work? Sabre
I agree, he does suck. Its people like you who make these things so difficult. Ill be sure not to buy from him  Making it boot is a lost cause. I have the original so its not worth it.
I'm guessing this is tongue-in-cheek... otherwise that would make him deceitful scum like the guy that sold it in the first place, no?
If that German seller is the same one that I think, about 4 months ago I bought some Sega Saturn betas to him. He offered to me a beta of Resident Evil but when I contacted again with him it was already sold.
Lol. Come on, I didn't mean it. It was a tongue-in cheek comment not to be taken seriously. It does suck you ended up buying a PSYQ setup because it came along with a beta of BioHazard. But at least you got a complete PSYQ. That alone, if you don't want it, can net you $150 I think(not sure of their worth). It's better than not getting any of that money back. You just have a coaster now. Nothing you can do and nothing that is worth doing about it. I do remember you, Dot50Cal, buying a PSOne w/ LCD screen from me and that transaction went well! That comment I said was not to be taken seriously, that's what the ;-) was there for.
I too was bidding on this, more for the saturn to be honest but the beta did draw me in a little. When I realised the guy had bought a saturn CDR that is when I started realising that things weren't right. He never once replied to an email regarding the beta but would quite happily answer questions about the system. Nice to see it went to someone but you paid way to much, unlucky man.
