After approximately three years of working on it, I have finally finished my story "The Barghest". It has changed from a short story for my senior portfolio (which I presented half finished) into a novella. It is the longest story I have written thus far, and it is the longest it has ever taken me to complete a story. It comes as both a huge relief and incredible amounts of excitement as this story has turned into a form of writers block over the years. Not being able to finish this story has prevented me from writing more than two pages of any new stories, a rather large blow for a fiction writer. As I have no one to celebrate with, I thought I'd let all of you know. Thanks.
Not yet. My brother is a graphic designer for a magazine, he does page layouts and advertisements. He's going to do all the layouts for the book and draw the cover, and then were going to have about twenty copies professionally printed. He knows of quite a few printing companies up where he lives in Oregon. I'm gonna use two copies to secure my copyright and then send a few copies to former professors whom have been published and ask for their advice/help. I'm also going to send a couple copies to agents in the hopes of getting one of them to pick me up as a client. I'm gonna keep a few copies for myself/family, but overall I'm going to use them to try to get this book (it's a novella) published and to hopefully get some kind of deal for my next book.
Congratulations! It takes a ton of work to put together something like that. Good luck with finding a publisher.
Congrats buddy! That truly is a great accomplishment. I'm interested in reading this, so if you have an extra copy lying around, I'll buy it off you ^_^
Congratulations Samael! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only aspiring writer around these parts. If I might ask, what is the subject matter of this novella? A brief synopsis would be great.
Oh nice. Now I'm very interested. Is there a point where I might be able to read a transcript or possibly some excerpts? I understand if you don't want just anyone reading it before it's published if that is the case.
It needs to go through a final edit, so we'll see after that point. I'm more concerned about it getting copyrighted as soon as possible, but I'm gonna wait until I have the copies that my brother and I are publishing so I can have that version copyrighted.
Thanks, but I already have the forms. I already hold one copyright for a previous story. I want to copyright the whole printed version of this novella, not just the story though, so I'm gonna wait a little bit till thats done. That way I can have a copy of my book in the Library of Congress. I think that would be pretty neat.
I'm glad I got something right!  I was a little worried as I haven't been to England since I was 4 or 5 years old, and I don't believe I left London while I was there.
