Wow the true power of the gamecube. I would of been a Nintendo fan boy again if they would of open the gates for a more adult link.
Yep, Cube really is a powerful console. Just found something quite nice comparing the cube to PS2: PS2 RE:4 Cube RE:4
Thanks Steadster, a very interesting article. I particularly sympathised with the bit about voice being text - I really hate most voice acting in videogames. I just finished Beyond Good and Evil, and although the gameplay was excellent, the experience was marred by horrible voice acting. I was thinking of switching to italian, but realised the subtitles would be in italian too ^_^
Thanks very much for the scans, the Steadster. that was a very good read. I think the file sizes are fine. Any smaller and it would be quite difficuilt to read. Yakumo
Yeah, English voice acting in games too often sickeningly bad. It kinda works with stuff like Resident Evil and MGS because they're kinda like cheap-ass B-movies anyway, but in RPGs or anything else it makes me want to die. Playing Shenmue 2 on the DC really shows how bad English voice acting is in comparison to the originals. The DC was great for keeping the original Japanese voice acting - some games like Sonic Adventure and Chu Chu Rocket had options for changing the language to Japanese. And I remember when I first played Soul Calibur 2 on the GC with some friends - all of us who were used to playing the first one on the DC - when we heard them speaking in English there was a collective moan in the room, and we quickly went to the options menu...
What gets to me the most is, I wouldn't mind what the default setting was, so long as the option to change it was there. Every Japanese DVD I buy has English sub/dub options, why is this not the case with videogames? I'm guessing that it might change when there's masses of spare storage space for th extra audio, but really I wouldn't have thought that was a consideration at the moment for most games, seeing as they're rarely filling their medium...
Laziness on the publisher's half, I think. Same reason why we don't always get 60Hz options on PAL games, but then again Sony's also to blame for that in a lot of cases because of the retarded PS2 outputting in NTSC and not PAL-60...
WTF? Am I going nuts? Did I just see Link turn into a were wolf? Wouldn't mind getting one of those DS cartridge videos. Prick bastard reporters. I knew I should've gone. :/
People bash Nintendo a LOT recently, but that article just gives evidence to how absolutely fucking brilliant their best software people still are. Nintendo corporate can go on making 6 billion Mario Party games for all I care, I hope every one sells a million copies so they can continue to finance the brainchildren of these overwhelmingly intelligent people. I can't wait to see what all Aonuma comes up with on his own in the future on Revolution.
Maybe if they dint spend all their money making 6 billion Mario party games they could make more games like these... Or maybe even an original game....
Yeah, but those rehashes are cash cows, and Nintendo needs the revenue. For my beloved company to stay in business against the giants, they need to milk the franchises a bit, and that's ok, because they're good franchises. Better a billion Mario Parties than a billion Army Men games, right? And they do come out with some damned fine original games. Pikmin and Animal Crossing come to mind. Unfortunately, it'll never be like the heyday of the NES ever again, with awesome brand new shiny unique games coming out every month. But I can deal with that, better than no Nintendo at all.
metal gear have really good voices, and don't tell it is like a cheap ass b movie or you're gonna make me cry!:smt022
Point is Nintendo license that to another company, so they don't pay shit and just rake royalties = $$$ for free. Just ignore them like you do all the junk on other platforms. With ya there...
