As some of you might know, monkfish, who approached us about geist force passed away
last year from cancer. It's my belief he was clearing house (His dev career mementos)
to provide money for his children past his death.

I've decided to auction off the original geist force GDR and donate the money to
    charity.

The point of this post if to solicit idea on how to best promote the effort and
to find a worthy children's cancer charity for the money.

If possible I'd like to find a reliable charity and send them the disc and then coordinate with them
    to auction the disc.

I have a small box of dreamcast promos I will include in the deal and hopefully we can make
a good effort. If anyone has small dreamcast mementos, we can pool them and then the
auction will have some real good substance.

I look forward to constructive comments.

    That is so sad :(

How about this charity/project http://www.zapcancer.org/ it's already going through clinical trial and it looks promising.

I believe people on Neo-Geo forum did the same thing for Nightmare Tony. I believe you could replicate the same method.

My friend's wife was part of 46 mommas and I think they were raising money for St. Baldricks Foundation.

Wow thats sad to hear, cancer is such a hard thing to battle.

As for the auction I'm not sure how well sending off the disc for them to auction would work they might not want to do it with it being something dev related/unreleased. Very noble of you Kev to do this hope the auction is success how ever way you proceed with it.

I don't think a public auction for such an item would be very successful and I don't think bids would generate that much money. A better option would be to have the disc framed with a plaque of some kind and then raffle it off on the forum (100 tickets at $10 each...?) then pull a number out at random and pick a winner; you could auction the Dreamcast items off separately.

Indeed sad. Can one anyone tell me what kind of cancer that Monkfish got ?

Making donating for cancer charity is respectful idea but what about his children ? Could send money to them instead ?

Sad that he no longer with his family.

I like the concept of this idea better than the auction personally. Think it would do a lot better.

Sad to hear about this... may he rest in peace.
Good luck with whatever method you choose for the auction; I hope I can help when the time comes.

Whatever method of raising funds is used (auction/raffle), hopefully once it's up it'll get some interest from other sites and publications to increase the amount raised. I'm thinking along the lines of how the Sega Pluto news exploded after it was posted here, but obviously on a smaller scale.

    This is a great idea.

Plus, maybe you could contact the same charity the guys from Humble Bundle work with?

    My condolences to Monkfish's family.
