    Hey Guys,

Does anyone who owns an ASRock ION Atom 330 have any impressions about it? Does it run MAME (CP3, IGS, NEO, etc) just fine, or does it get slow like other Atom platforms I've seen? How is the HD playback?

    I haven't tested emulators yet.

HD playback works like a charm with GPU decoding!
Tested with a bunch of MKV 720p and 1080p.
System conected to HDTV 1080p using HDMI cable and to receiver using spdif. Running windows7.

Do you plan to use XBMC?
The windows version don't have GPU video decoding yet. Only the linux version have.
I'm using XBMC Windows for music and SD content.
For HD content I use MPC Home Cinema.

I will make some youtube videos and post here.

Ah, thanks for your report! I plan to use my box for VLC and emulation. Mainly stuff like MAME, CP3, PGM, and perhaps basic PS1 games, etc. Nothing too fancy. On my netbook running Linux, I found CP3 emulation to be a bit laggy so I was a bit worried the ION 330 might be a bit underpowered for what I wanted. I figure I'd run Linux or Windows depending on which has better software support for the hardware.

the ion should make a bit of a difference for video decoding, but a desktop 330 is a lot faster than the netbook boards.. primarily in the second core and 64 bit support...

I don't imagine the ion chipset will help emulation of old games too much, but the cpu sure should.

I use a few intel d945gclf2d for my general desktop needs and I find that they're pretty hefty- in the end however, if you don't need the mini-itx formfactor or low power consumption, you can get a better value out of a cheap amd or intel rig..

Fanless quiet is a huge plus for many.

wow, I didn't realize it could handle cps3 emulation. I've read about the gpu decoding does it handle any type of subtitles while using this type of decoding in XBMC? Some movies I have and anime especially have subtitles.

I haven't tried with anime SSA subs.
It works fine with SRT and IFO(dvd) subs.

Sonik --> What model ASRock do you own? 330HT or 330Pro? How loud are the fans on it? Comparable to a Dreamcast?

Neither of these. I have the ION 300 (the first model)
Fans are silent. I would say it's comparable to a dreamcast.
I can't say about the later models. Never seen one before.

Ah. Thanks. I heard the later models using different fans which makes a much louder sound. But unless it's louder than a Dreamcast, I can't figure it being too much trouble.

    Rise from your grave!
I'm currently using my ION 330 with Lakka (RetroArch) for emulation.
It's bootable and it's fast. Even some PSP works at good speed in this very old computer.
