Ok, so I am in mission 4 or so and I think there is not much new stuff added compared with AC2. But its fun to play anyway.
Truth be told I think the desmond story is expanded a little more, the series is slowly focusing on him a little more each time. As far as Ezio there is actually a little bit less you can do than before like the jump grab feature. It still has a story arch similar to AC2 leaving you confused out of your mind.
