Anyone else think it'd be a good idea for some users to come up with a reasonable price guide that people can stick with for consoles/development hardware in every condition? I think it'd be wise for ASSEMbler to get a Wiki since it'd be a great reference for newbies of the site/anyone. It would be helpful for people to poll what items are worth to them in each condition to distinguish a range. Thoughts?

As prices vary wildly between regions (and even parts of the same region) it would take probably too much effort.

Do development hardware items vary from region to region? I think that if the guide was respected, the prices might catch on. Besides, of course it wouldn't be dead on but at least people could bounce their own buys/sales off the guide. I've seen many people here sell their stuff for more/less than they should and theres often been user intervention ;)

    Very true

NR readers for example, ~£150 in the UK, but ~$200 US on a good day.

DC dev stuff I have seen with a £1=$1 ratio.

I think it varys way too much,

I have dev things which have been sold by others for quite more than I payed. Haveing a price wiki would mean standard prices for all.

Since most of us are collectors, the prices for certain items will vary a lot from a standard price.

I'd think a sticky thread with the topic "How much is XXX in XXX condition worth" in the sale sub message board would a better idea.

    Any other ideas ?

A wiki on rare things and saying if they are valuable and then rating the value(low, high, very high, bla,bla would be a good idea. How much one would pay for a certain item is always the buyers choice...

Yeah but a common price range wouldn't be a bad idea. Nor would it be very hard to research. Of course anyone could pay whatever they felt was fair, I don't think a price guide will stop people from paying whatever they want... My idea with this is to get something similar to the Neo Geo scene but more accurate and reasonable but specifically for consoles and development hardware, not games. Needless to say, this guide would not take into account ebay auctions that end rediculously low or high.

i think it would help a little to see how rare some items are or how often they are bought/sold

I'd be interested to see how mucg things are worth according to the guide but at the end of the day it's always how much you or someone else wants it. :)

"newbies" can be advised on prices by looking at ebay in their respective regions. In other words if you need a "price guide" so that the "newbies" are informed about prices (because they are probably so ignorant since they are afterall just newbies (sarcasm)) guess what!!! Take a look at ebay. Kyuusaku it seems that you took my offer to the forum a bit personal. I am fine with that but don't you think you are stretching it a little bit? I am indeed a newbie but that does not make me stupid.

I don't think eBay is a very good guide, it's helpful to see the whole picture (such as YJ buys.) This has nothing to do with your item, nor am I aiming this project at you. Also, I don't want it to be a guide to rarity, strictly a list of projected monitary worth. Rarity is apparently too controversial to judge due to the range of people's standards but a hypothetical price guide seems doable.

Edit: BTW, the wiki would be a place for site newbies to start reading up on what goes on here, its not going to be geared towards newbies. The price guide would only be one aspect of the wiki. I'm sure there are plenty of other things users can come up with. I'd like to see tutorials on booting GDRs, using dev kits, seeing each piece/photos of each kit and SDK, seeing what comes with each console etc. Just topics that are reoccuring on the forums. Again, not about Kotsos ;)
