ASSEMbler, still interested in testing my supergun vs the others?

Are you still interested in the component video supergun to test?
I still need to know the DB-25 pinouts and also which gender to make the supergun controller ports (are there female or male ports on the controller cable?).

I'd love to see how it holds up to the others.

Here's a peek at one I just finished:

Looks pretty sexyrific. Out of interest what do you normally charge for that, and what RGB encoder do you use?

Since there's interest, I'll go into a bit of detail here ;-)

The system is meant for use with most JAMMA compatible boards, including:
    - Neo Geo MVS
    - IGS PGM
    - CPS2/3
    - tons of other standalone boards (over 100 tested and working so far!)

    Features of this supergun:
    - component, S-Video, and composite outputs
    - NeoBitz (www.neobitz.com) RGB encoder
    - adjustable RGB inputs
    - pin compatible with standard Neo Geo controllers, wired for up to 6 action buttons (for CPS2/3)
    - true CPS2/3 kick harness
    - switchable stereo/mono output (black switch on front)
    - attenuated audio signal = line level so you don't blow your speakers with loud JAMMA boards
    - power switch and "connected" LED (only powers on when properly installed)
    - tabletop Jameco PSU (Ault model SC200) = powers nearly anything except Neo Geo 6-slots and Hyper 64 (require more juice)
    - wired to accept power supply with -5V (rarely needed)
    - coin buttons (black push buttons on front)
    - test button (red one)
    - sync separation switch = silver switch on back. This is to maximize compatibility with more JAMMA boards which tend to have funky sync signals sometimes
    - mesh cover on the harness = something I just started installing with this supergun by request (actually is a big pain in the ass)

For a similar supergun (a few less bells and whistles, mainly case and kick harness) with power supply, I get about $310 shipped (priority, insured). Yeah, it's more than the MAS supergun, but this is with component video and MANY more options for output. For a standard supergun without component and no kick harness, I get about $225 shipped.

    Cheers for that, very interesting.
Mind telling me how you do the connected LED? - I'm still planning to build myself a supergun, but as a PAL-ite i can just use straight RGB, which is handy - saves a fair bit of effort

    and cash ;-)

The LED in this one is a straight assembly from Radio Shack, not something I normally use, but seemed to match the theme better for this one. Already has the resistor installed too. I simply wire the cathode to +12V and the anode to ground.

Use Ohm's Law to calculate which resistor to install:

oh right, thought it might have been something mega fancy in detecting the presence of a board - nonetheless, seems like a pretty decent solution.

Oh, you mean how does it know a board is plugged in, ah.....

You wire it to the harness, not the power supply input. That way, when the board is attached, it completes the circuit to the LED. Simple as that. :douga

does this supergun work for SAMMY ATOMISWAVE ,M2 HARDWARE ARCADE

KILLER INSTINCT 1 and 2 HARDWARE ARCADE??

Works well with Atomiswave. As far as the others I have no idea. If the power requirements are met and if they are JAMMA compliant, it should work.

Ever thought about providing these with RGB for overseas customers, or do you already eh?

RGB is easy since you don't even need the encoder. I don't do no SCART crap though ;-)

Do you use a Jameco table top powersupply?

Yep, either the SC200 or SW300. These are actually Ault PSUs, but sold through Jameco.

So 1 amp on the 12V rail is enough for most games? Thanks for the info
