Splitting from the Favourtie games from each console thread, I'm thinking we should go ahead and do it and have an assembler top 100. We need to plan how to do it, then collect votes and compile a list How To allocate points Main question here is how to vote - I had an idea of you have n number of points, which can be allocated to up to 20 games in whatever way you want, e.g. Mario Bros 1 - 5 points LOZ - 5 points Gunstar Heroes - 4 points Sonic 1 - 2 points Shenmue - 2 points Mario Kart - 1 point FF7 - 1 point Total - 20 points This solves the problem of "I can't name only 3/5/10 games" but adds slightly to the complexity Alternatively we can just go for the traditional top 3/5/10, or I'm open to any other suggestions Technicalities Do we include PC, or any other computers? If we exclude computers, how do we define computer/console? How do we handle multiplatform games - Does say Resident Evil 4 count as one game or 2 (PS2+GC)? Top 100/50/20/anything else? Throw ideas at me! Possibly a poll later to decide if something isn't agreed in a majority
I would mention that points should be whole integers (i.e. no 3.5 points for a game) and that the platform should be listed with the game. As far as multplatform games, I feel that they should be separated to allow for individual platform lists. For example, I may vote for the Xbox version of a Splinter Cell game, but not the GC or PS2 version. However, I can see wanting to combine them for an all incompassing Top 100 list. I would include computer games, as well as arcade games. Also, just for clarity is this an independent Top 100 list (any console) or will this possibly be split into a Top 10 list for each console too? Oh, and the FULL name of the game should be listed as some abbreviated games are difficult to discern.
I think there's always a better version of a multiplatform game. Separating the list by consoles would defeat the general "top 100 of all time" feeling of it, but would solve the port problem. But I think maybe we should list multiplatform games as "multiplatform", and specify the version of the port that got the best scores. The list should encompass all consoles. Maybe there should be a separate, shorter list for PC games, and a separate list for arcade games that weren't ported. I don't know much about arcades, so I don't know if that sounds okay or not. Older computers should count as consoles, though, in my opinion. And yes, the numbers should be integers.
Meant to mention that if we go ahead with a points system then integers are the way to go. Gets far too crazy otherwise. Keep the suggestions flowing
Already tried to do something like that: http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5724 And my conclusion is that its nearly impossible to do on a forum, good luck. Pc games should be in. You cant just pass games such as Mist, starcraft , ect. Multiplatform games should count as one.
Why don't we just have a top 100 list for each of the major consoles first and mainstream PC games. And then work on smaller lists for the other obscure consoles like 3DO, CDi, etc.? As for games available on multiple consoles (multiplatform), I don't think we should have it as a seperate list because there aren't that many multiplatform games that were really stellar. There are a few but it would be easier to just include it on a certain console rather than create an entire seperate list. For example, RE4 is best played on the GC rather than PS2. How about this. We just list the game if it came out on that system first. Soul Calibor 2 was originally announced for the GC and since it included Zelda, it is probably the better version of all the other ports. RE4 was originally released for the GC but a year later it was ported to the PS2.
They do it at Shmups, even though the system is rather confusing. It's stickied in the main forum if you want to get some inspiration on how to tally scores. Basically, each user sets their own scale. YOu can vote for 1 game, or 100 games, and give them any amount of points you want.
