Oop, time to change hosting provider methinks!

To be honest, I've been having pretty bad experiences with running PHP code on GoDaddy, and this is the impetus I need to get away! Any recommendations?

Never heard of GoDaddy, but one can only hope the same eventually happens to him -- getting killed by someone for their personal enjoyment.

I'm moving my domains off soon. This is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. My unrelated major problem with godaddy is they are WAY too aggressive with in your face sales.

Every article on this seems to be using the exact same information, which doesn't say a lot in the first place, since it only seems to be garnered from that video. As tasteless as the vid maybe, there are questions before a sensible person should make a judgment:

    Where was the elephant shot?
Was it part of a government cull?
was it shot on a managed game reserve?
Whats the source of the video?

Plenty of the articles online are from animal rights activists, simply calling him a colonialist hunter, simply taking dislike to the butchering of the elephant. I dislike the majority of animal rights activists because most apply human perspective to a situation rather than taking an objective approach to conservation. Ie save an elephant, but they don't bother thinking beyond what impact that has on the environment. In many areas of Africa elephants are overpopulated and go past the carrying capacity of the land. Elephant numbers have always been managed by humans (at least for the past few thousand years) now in many areas they have no natural predators.

Similar story on a Scottish island - introduced hedgehogs were going to be culled to prevent them from destroying the nest sites of birds, but as they look so cute that got shelved. Thus birds have one less nesting site. Tons of examples like these - AR activists seem to be in it for themselves (to stroke their animal loving ego) than for conservation.

But then what do I know, I don't know the full background to the story either. I'll wait until seeing the full story before making an assessment.

To be honest, PETA's reaction is typical, and I tend to ignore everything they say (mostly because they are as egregious as the people they protest against).

To summarise: Bob Parsons took part in a 'legal' shoot of elephants in Zimbabwe to cull the numbers of animals that 'trespass' on human-colonised land. He also shot and killed a lion that was getting too interested in the area.

The problem I have is not the fact that the locals have a problem with wild animals in the area, but the fact that he stepped over the line from 'survival' to 'sport'. That, combined with the misogyny and egotistical nature of his persona in his 'comedy videos' and the consistent problems I have with the service I have received over last few months and it's probably time for me to take my business somewhere else.

    Ditto.

Any time killing becomes "sport", something you do for fun, it just rubs me the wrong way. Kill for food, fine. Kill for the preservation of other species, fine. Kill for the fuck of it? I can't abide by that.

Only if you wanted to foot the medical bills for the withdrawl that would go on.

Fuck this CEO. Purgatory is too good for him.

Well, this is the company I use (my referral link):

    http://www.servage.net/?coupon=cust14707

They're fine for hosting (I have several MySQL databases with them) and pretty fast on support. However, I had issues with their e-mail servers and so I tend to use another company for e-mail.

One of the best hosts possibly is 1&1, although they're not the cheapest and won't offer you the most space / bandwidth. They're good for hosting .co.uk domains, though (and I may well switch from GoDaddy for .com now), and I've had no trouble with e-mail servers. Here's my affiliate link with them:

If you fancy using one of them, please use my affiliate links! Thanks!

Was looking into buying a domain name instead of my freewebs one. GoDaddy can consider them selves DaddyGone from the list.

1&1 was really popular on a few forums I frequented a few years back when they had some crazy offers to generate business. IIRC they weren't half bad.

Back in the beginning of 2004, they offered 3 free years. I got in on this deal. I've kept my account open for $20 every 6 months since. The price is going up in May though. I've also found their servers to be a bit slow. That's my only real complaint.

I'm loving how people are now moving their domains and hosting away from GoDaddy, Because shooting elephants obviously affects the service they provide.
