Any interest on Brazilian stuff? Mainly TecToy (SEGA Brazil) ?

I helped CHAZumaru on a article about brazilian gaming some time ago, for the first issue of the french magazing Gaming , and would not be a problem to help again. I'll have some free time after my last exam at college (tomorrow). Let's just hope i don't need to do any finals.

heh, thanks for the offer of help on Brazil. I actually just handed in a 6 page feature on it. I found several Brazilian collectors to help out, and they also donated a massive gallery. I also managed to write up a rather full history of TecToy too. Thanks for the offer though! :)

Btw, do you mean CHAZumaru from Insert Credit? Cool.
It never ceases to amaze me what a small gaming world we live in.

Hey there, hope the article is going well.

Well, I don't own ALL of the clones up on my website, although I do have 6 famiclones. The purpose of the website was in the begining to get pics of every game system and variant ever made, then it became kind of a quest to catalog clone game systems (not just famiclones.)

I'll get you pics of the ones I actually do own soon, along with a little article. Hope it helps.

Cool. Any chance you could put this 6 page article avaiable for us?

Well, it's probably him. (never knew he was on Insert Credit). I helped him with pictures and info, and he even interviewed me. He also sent to me the magazine the article was used.

    Gonna try to contact him.

And yes, it's smal world. :smt045

    Ok. Just a quick update.

I've been speaking with editor. His editor really likes the proposed article, and so I am finally getting the greenlight and a deadline to adhere to finish this.

    Basically it's all system go!

If you have images of obscure items, or tales to tell, be sure to PM me.

I will be contacting assembler again (thanks for agreeing to that! :) ), and getting things finished.

During the actual writing of said article, I will most likely pop back here to clear up a few things, and ask some specific questions.

In the meantime, looks like I need to search this forum for interesting facts.

Thanks to all those who've helped so far. :)

    EDIT:
Also, there is a chance that the page count will be upgraded from 4 pages to 6 pages. Giving me a lot of words with which to paint the world of the obscure and assemblers collection. ;)

You think SEGA did weird stuff in brazil? so should go and see what GAMELA did (SEGA Argentina)

I remember a weird Genesis/SegaCD console. At first we though it was the Wondermega/Xeye, but the external desing was TOTALLY diferent. I cant recall seein any of them working, but they came up in a lot of magazines around here, not only videogame ones, but tech and consummer ones too.

It wont surprise me that SEGA did a wondermega for the argentinian market: at the time we were in a state of total economical superavit and ppl was buyin all kind of electronic stuff. Anyways, there was this national-industry protection agreement, so a lot of things (like tvs, VCRs, and even some PCs) had to be, at least ensambled inside the country. GAMELA had a couple of factories (like Tectoy) but they had to close it around 94 in a wave of rampant piracy.

Its probably that that wondermega had the same internals that the japanese one. But the exterior was VERY diferent, like a neptune with a MarkI SegaCD (it used a motorised tray)

If i can find a photo ill post it in here :smt023

    UPDATE:

Firstly let me apologise for taking so long to update this topic. I feel incredibly guilty for keeping you all in the dark, especially after speaking to assembler on the phone and describing at length, the planned article. (sorry about that! Things were out of my hands, hence this long delay)

Firstly, Live Publishing, publishers of Retro Gamer, went bankrupt in a rather nasty scandal that I don't want to get into. Sufficed to say, many employees and freelancers ended up losing a lot of money due to a few unscrupulous people at the top.

This had the added burden that suddenly there were dozens of freelancers asking GamesTM (the magazine I intended this article to be in) for freelance work. Plus, their retro section has had their budget cut again, down to only 4 pages a month. Meaning it'll be a long time before I'm at the front of the queue with work being printed.

As a result, I have been looking into other publications to carry this, and have found another one that is interested in a story on the "gaming world of the obscure". My content deadline now is the 22nd of November, with the publishing date being the 13th of December.

Just thought I'd keep you all up to date on what's happening. Once it's finished I will post again with further news.

I have all the info I need (a big thanks to all those forumites who PMd and emailed me), so now it's just a case of finishing it all off.

    regards
    John S

If all goes according to plan it should appear in...

    www.escapistmagazine.com

    On December 13th.

Except... now the site seems to be down. I hope it's only temporary.

Don't worry, I'll start a big topic announcing it, and also thanking those members of the ASSEMbler forum who helped out.
