Just wanted to let people know that Curt Vendel over AtariAge is going to release an expansion module for the Atari 7800. The homebrew scene over AtariAge is quite active for some year now for the 7800 and one the the major draw back of the 7800 is it's memory / audio capability. The 7800 use the old TIA chip from the Atari 2600 to generate sound. It was possible to add a POKEY chip in game cart to add better audio but this require to kill a Ballblazer as donor cart for each homebrew games. The expansion module will allow to release homebrew game using conventional game cart since all the special hardware will be in the expansion module. Spec: Pre-ordering will allow Curt to start the manufacturing of the module, so if anyone is interested, please pre-order to make this happen Link to pre-order : http://www.legacyengineer.com/storefront/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=39&products_id=115 Info on manufacturing process: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/169672-7800-xm1-update-status/ General discussion on the expansion module: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/167879-expansion-modules-#1-and-#2/
Man, I love the 7800! I wish I had the 90 dollars to make mine awesome like that. This is indeed very interestng.
By the way there is a least one game ready now. Pacman collection will be the first game for the expansion module. This version replicate correctly the sound from the arcade version. You can try it with an emulator btw http://www.atariage.com/forums/topi...-pokey-sound/page__view__findpost__p__2077338
