I'm tempted to grab one of these that I have spotted on eBay for a decent price, but it comes without a power supply, and these things don't seem commonplace in the UK.

Does anyone know of a place that stocks them, or of a worthy substitute? Can a US PSU work on a UK one?

    Thanks!

The USA one will not work as it outputs 5V DC at 1.5A. The PAL 800XL PSU uses 9V DC at 1.8A. If you can't find one like that, use a 9V DC at 2A PSU. DO NOT USE THE PSU FROM THE STANDARD ATARI 800! It outputs 9V AC and will fry the poor thing.

If you do get it, you can do a simple mod to get S-Video out of it. Not sure if it can do RGB but it can do S-Video. If RGB is an option, then go for that instead.

Damn, thanks for letting me know. I can't see a UK PSU anywhere so I fear they are so rare they're like more expensive than the computer when sold separately. I'll look for a listing with both on offer.

    Thanks for the advice!

You're welcome! If you are in the USA, RadioShack or any other electronics store should have a PSU with the correct ratings. If the plug doesn't fit, you could cut off the old one and put on a new one that does fit.
