Read this at another forum. Since I no longer own a Jaguar, I'll be following this project with interest.

Credit to jaghoney for the info, and to RealityMan for his work on the emulator.

I thought there was already a Jaguar emulator in the form of WinUAE :p (I am sure more Jaguar owners that owned an amiga will get the reference...)

WIN UAE doesn't play Rayman properly (no sound)

which is really the only reason I'd even want a Jaguar emulator anyway

The Jaguar was a joke. It may have been powerful but most of the original Jaguar software was bloody awful in looks and playability. Sure, it's part of the history of gaming but more in the bin section along with the CDi. Stuff like the 32x, Mega CD and 3DO could also be said to have been a joke but at least they had a few good games. In fact, the 32x had more good games than crap games. Quite a feat for any console. Then again it only had a small selection but so did the Jaguar and most of them were turd.

The Jaguar is an interesting console, but it's not fun to play. Wolfenstein 3D, AvP, Doom, Tempest and Rayman are nice, but except for Tempest it's not like you couldn't play those games on other platforms.

What always drives me crazy is when Jaguar fans claim that their wild lady has the best Raiden version. Seriously? Raiden for Jaguar is the worst version of them all, even worse than the Mega Drive one if you ask me. Music sounds sloppy, there's a huge brick of an HUD on the rightern side like in 1988 and it doesn't even feature an autofire option - can you believe this?? No autofire in a Raiden console port! They honestly expected you to trigger the mushy buttons on that anchor of a controller some handless guy designed for free.

I can recall RealityMan (of UltraHLE fame) having worked on this for years. Glad to see he never gave up.

As mainly a platformer gamer, this system never did have much to offer, though it would be nice to experience the original Rayman. Besides that there's Bubsy...which from the videos I've seen is pretty bad like all the rest of them.

I'm glad to see they're still working on it though, this and 3do are two systems that seem to be ignored as far as emulation goes.

Eh? The only game on that list you cannot play on another platform is AvP. There is a PC game series called AvP... but it is not the same.

Anyways, I always liked the Jaguar. I had a blast with Iron Soldier I and II, Hover Strike, Battle Morph, I-War, Tempest 2000, Defender 2000, Skyhammer, BattleSphere, and Attack of the Mutant Penguins. I even have Ultra Vortek as a bit of a guilty pleasure.

I think the system gets a bad rap. Back when it was out, games like Iron Soldier and Alien vs. Predator were pretty impressive for a console. The system had its issues, sure, but there was fun to be had there if you looked for it.
