Hey guys! Here's something that kept me busy and it's something that various members at AtariAge started and i wanted to do 'cause some people ask about emulators for the Atari Jaguar and which one is the best one to play if you don't want to shove out a lot of cash for a real system or until SainT's SD Cart comes out. I did this on my own for the Jaguar Sector III crowd and i thought it would be cool to share this. Here's a list of games that do or don't work for the multiple emulators i tested my collection of ROMs. As of 07/28/2017: ===Project Tempest=== (NOTE: some games may require a download adress so here it is: 0x04000): - Alien Vs. Predator (works but the sound is not like on the real deal and sprites shows noticeable black outlines). - Atari Karts (barely playable, after you start any cup the game crashes). - Attack of the Mutant Penguins (after the intro, the title screen glitches off and after pressing B, it crashed). - Arena Football '95 (it works until the first catch of the ball happens). - BattleSphere (it doesn't recognize the ROM). - Brett Hull NHL Hockey (it doesn't work). - Breakout 2000 (after a few seconds of gameplay, it crashed). - Brutal Sports Football (it works but it sounds pretty off-key). - Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales (works great but with a slight imperfection on the screen). - Barkley Shut Up and Jam Alpha build. Why is it that out of 3 emulators, none of them can play even half the games right? Is Jaguar emulation that difficult or is it that nobody has really bothered to emulate it well?
Simply put IMO, it could be that nobody is bothered to make it so (with the exception of PEP and a upcoming one called Chocolate Jaguar). I believe that the other reason goes to that there's not a demo that can test the hardware of the system. That being said, the Phoenix emulator does show a lot of promise. Playing Zero 5 here without crashing is a blast...if brutally difficulty XD.
New android jag emulator called iratar jaguar , plays every game I've thrown at it , great speed although I'm using shield to.
I think it's supposed to have kind of a wonky design. It may also be poorly documented. Both are serious issues when it comes to emulation.
Here's the thing, there's good documentation of the system by the original team who did the hardware + the other ones by the old homebrew developers but there's another issue and it's that the Jaguar hardware design is both complex and buggy (since they couldn't iron out the remaining bugs that caused development of games difficult, moreso than the Sega Saturn).
