I got a couple systems recently and this jaguar was in the worst shape. They all came from a repair shop. Seems who ever works there shouldn't be employed.
Anyway when they removed the u38 ic they pulled a trace that seems to connect 4 pins to one point that's under the resistor. I should be able to just wire up those for the point the trace leads to correct? Just making sure before I go and buy this IC for 8$

Picture is just one I found online

$8? Ouch. And that's from a major electronics supplier?

The U38 is a power regulator and used to blow when someone used the wrong PSU (e.g. wrong polarity) and IIRC took out a capacitor, too. Sometimes the audio regulator went, too.

I can't see the trace in your photo, but if you think a trace is broken, yes mend it.

Here is a picture of the machine I have.

You can see the ripped trace here and that it seems to lead to a point thats under a resister I lifted. 4 pins on the IC in the picture on the previous post seem to connect to the trace that's ripped in my machine.

I was going to get the IC on ebay since I only need the one.

Thank you very much! This seems to confirm what I was thinking.

$8 is a rip-off, even on eBay. I'd much rather order from a decent supplier at $2-3, either pay a small item shipping fee if they do it or add other items I need until the shipping is worthwhile or free. It wasn't that long ago that you could pick up a Jag console without controllers or leads for $20 or less, but nowadays I guess they're worth a bit more.

It looks like the capacitor that usually blows at the same time is missing, by the way. C134.

I do need a few other components for other projects I have. You have any sites to suggest?

The cap was there, tho one of the leads were cut. So I removed the other side and cleaned the pads for the ic. It really looked like someone had ripped it out.

I was excited to get this thing at first, but after seeing prices for the official components and even the really bad games I don't think I'll be collecting for it. Might just buy one game I like and leave it at that.

I know this thread is ancient... but I wanted to say that I completed the repair. I went and got the chip and a game.

Turns out that the schematic and my assumtion were correct that those four pins all follow the same trace. And conveniently the trace leads to a through hole under the resistor next to it.

Hope this answer helps anyone who stumbles on this thread.
