We never talk about Atari on here much do we? Granted alot of 2600 Games have aged poorly but there are still some gems. The Jaguar has it's moments and don't ask me why but I REALLY want a 7800. So lets pay Atari some tribute.
Atari rocks Well I love me some Atari. No Jaguar but besides a couple ST's I have 2600 4 switch woody / 2600 Vader / Colecovision Exp Module # 1 / Sears Arcade II / 5200 VCS Adapter / 2nd 5200 VCS Adapter that has been modded with Svideo out and separate PSU to operate as a standalone unit / Atari 7800 / 2 2600 Jr's , I think that is about it.
I have a 2600 around somewhere, along with a few games, but I've never been able to get it to work. It just gives me a black screen.
Also Frogs' N' Flies, the Star Wars games, Air Sea Battle, Private Eye, Haunted House, Pole Position, and Kangaroo. I used to have a hand-me-down 7800 with a lot of broken joysticks.. Never actually played 2600/7800 with anything other than a Sega Genesis controller. Does the Jaguar homebrew scene still exist?
No Atari console love here. I've never so much as touched console besides the Jag and there wasn't anything there that impressed me. Not even AvP.
Atari is well beyond my age group so it doesn't strike much interest with me. Still, I appreciate that people adore the classics on those consoles, and I'm pleasantly surprised with some of the games they have on the 2600. I have yet to try any of their home computer systems, though.
Really like the Lynx. Making it my mission this year to complete all the must have titles for the console. My list is about getting titles that either are great games (like the excellent port of Rampart) or technical showpieces (like Electrocop, Warbirds and Shadow of the Beast). It's a shame lots of games for the console are barely games, just had really advanced technological features and tried to make a game around them. Titles like Warbirds and Slime World show that they had lots of ideas and great technology but could not focus on making a game with them. Won a contest for a free Jaguar on the Atari Age forums so many years ago and sold it a few year later, which I now regret as they have become expensive these days according to ebay. Maybe next year I will focus on completing a short collection with the same criteria as for the Lynx. Have always been curious about the 7800, maybe one day, with the european control pads. Those look great.
I also love my Atari. I have Harmony for my 2600 so I can play almost anything although I often play Adventure (level 3) the most. I also like my Lynx, I have all but 3 commercially released games (the 3 are the rarer late releases often going over $100 on eBay). I do have Eye of the Beholder game with box and manual from when someone on AA worked on it. I have 5200 with some games including Pitfall 2 (the only version with extra level) and Adventure 2. I used to have 7800 (sold games, still have console) many of the games were meh and since I didn't grow up with it I couldn't "get it" so it was never a priority. Same with Atari computers. I also used to have Jaguar but it didn't win me over either. I still have Jag pads to use on modded Intellivision.
I got a 2600 a year or two ago, but I don't really collect for it. Call it sacrilege, but I can't use the joystick for it (the Genesis pad works very nice though). Interestingly enough, when I got mine I had no idea what to do with it, because it had no video port. Turns out, the cable from inside the system was cut by some idiot. After replacing the cable (it's a fairly standard one) the thing works fine, though I think I prefer the Gemini for convenience. Still, the 2600 was long dead by the time I was born, so I can't bring myself to play it for more than a few minutes at a time.
