My Lynx mark 1 has lost its power jack connector (still works ok with batteries) and I want to replace it for as little money as possible. I know I can buy a replacement for $2 here: http://www.best-elec.../lynx.htm#Right ...but when you take into account international postage (I'm in the UK) and minimum order costs it gets expensive. Here's my question: Can I just solder in a power connector from a Sega Game Gear and then use a PSU with the correct polarity for the Lynx? (or the Game Gear PSU polarity if that's the same). Many thanks!
You can replace any connector with any other connector, just need to find something that fits on the pcb (or solder wires - but you loose strength that being solder to the pcb provides). Long as the power is getting into the device and matches what it expected, the connector doesnt matter. Your issue is going to be finding a jack with the same footprint and also physically fits into the console.
Many thanks for your advice. Yes an Atari 2600 Jr power jack connector is too big so I'll try a Game Gear connector.
