Atari needs to stop this Atari box before it's too late

I can't see this being successful at all. The video game console scene is as competitive as ever, and a has-been company like Atari is not going to be able to pull a glorified Ouya with a better video chip. Yes, Atari, the company that never patches any game they publish, no matter how buggy. I still can't complete Demon Stone for PC, and Temple of Elemental Evil always crashes at certain parts that don't let me advance the game.

It's going to end up like the Neogeo gold, bought by a small percent of people as a curiosity, quickly forgotten by everybody else. The only games for it will be the launch games.

Let's be honest here, there's more interest in a new Dreamcast than a new Atari, and if there ever was a new Dreamcast, it'd still be a huge uphill battle for Sega, like Vegeta trying to take out Goku, Beerus, and Hit at the same time.

From what I read, it's an Atari-made x86_64 PC running Linux. That means you could play games that run in Linux or even reformat the HDD with Windows and run Windows games on it. It won't go anywhere like you said but it is still pretty neat. Under-powered severely but neat nonetheless.

I hope it becomes a dental camera like the Jaguar did. Then people could finally have wood grain on their dentist offices equipment!
Anyways, I agree with you, this console is probably gonna be a dumpster fire right out of the gates.

Really? In terms of original sales there were 30 million Atari 2600, but only 9.13 million Dreamcast.

Whether they succeed or not will mostly come down to cost and games. I don't think the branding will make much difference in terms of sales, but it obviously has an advantage in terms of marketing.

I probably won't buy one, but then I wouldn't by a nes or snes classic either & they sold rather well.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. If it ends up being good enough, I might consider getting one.

Ill probably buy one just because it has the name Atari on it honestly. But Ill wait until theyre getting clearanced off or for something CIB 2ndhand a ways down.

Ill only be buying it to have it in my collection though, dont think itll go anywhere past a possible overhyped launch.

Yeah and the Jaguar sold less than 250,000 while the Genesis sold over 35 million. What's your point? It'd be a tough sell trying to get people to buy an Atari 2600 over a Dreamcast in 2017. I like retro games, but I stop at NES. Atari games are blocks of color on a screen.

This "Atari" is nothing more than a licensed logo in a box.

I know, and the fact they want to crowdfund it just means they know it's likely to fail and they don't want to suffer the consequences of when it does.

Eh this is stupid but even more stupid are a bunch of Sega Fanboys trying to make a Sega Console.

Woah, woah. The 2600 was on store shelves for 15 years. The Dreamcast barely had 3.

There's a very, very small group of people that are positive that if they beg Sega enough, Sega will spend millions/billions on making a new system for them. These people are delusional.

The NES/SNES classic runs under Linux.
But the PS3,PS4 and Switch are FreeBSD based actually.
Not that the difference matters as they're all locked down.

Not sure if everyone is speaking about what I said, because all I meant by it is there's no chance sega can introduce a new console ATM and if sega can't, Atari sure as all hell can't.
