ATARi Road Blasters / Road Avenger (prototype / demo) ? I know this aracde title made it to many consoles and even LaserDisc, but are there any prototypes, demos or alphas / betas out there ? No matter which console, but at least not a final version. Thanks in advance.
Atari have nothing to do with Road Avenger / Road Blaster on later disc. That game was made by Data East in Japan.
Yeah, I thought about that too but with the mention of Road Avenger and Laser Disc I guess he got confused due to the similar names.
Yeah sometimes I would get them mixed up too cause of the name (which is probably why it got a different name in the U.S.) Without changing subject too much anyone play the iphone version of road avenger?
I agree it's a good port better played on an ipad imo. Controls for steering wheel are a bit awkard. They did port cobra command as well but it has been removed from the appstore sadly
I'm curious if they cleaned up the video. Laserdisc is encoded for composite quality so I'm wondering if they were able to source the original animation for better clarity.
I'm not sure but I remember it looking quite nice when I had an iPhone. It's a real shitter that they never ported road Blaster or Thunder Storm to Android. The did port crappy dragons lair though. Man, I really dislike that game.
Ahhh I mixed that one up...completely. Thanks for clearing it up and thanks for the MegaDrive Cover ! So, have there been any betas/prototypes out there ?
I loved this game, I bought it along with my Lynx, Gauntlet 3 and Zarlor Mercenary when the Lynx launched in the UK (cost a small fortune). I played Road Blasters so much that after I beat the game I started over and played through with the screen flipped. Such a good port.
A few years ago they ported Thunder Storm/Cobra Command to IOS. It's a great port but it's gone now. Dragon's Lair is fun but you have to turn off all the hints that Digital Leisure puts on copies that tell you what the next move is. The fun of that game in the arcades was the discovery of the moves and the timing. Digital Leisure is keeping the games out there but by having on screen hints on as default, its like having gamefaqs in front of you while playing the game.
I think I may have had that too. What would be great is to have the sound from the Mega CD version but with HD video. The reason being is that wolfteam improved the soundtracks to all my friends data East and Taito games that they ported. All other releases use the Laser Disc audio.
