Atlus has gone insolvent and is to be dissolved. Known for the persona series, Atlus will be missed in the west for bringing over their nice RPGS from Japan. It will be merged with a phone game / application company and the titles transferred over to them. Atlus will then be dissolved and delisted from the stock exchange.
I had a feeling this was coming for a long time. 3D Dot Game Heroes is one of my favourite games of all time, amongst other stuff they ve put out, even during the n64 era (snowboard kids!!)
THe whole of Atlus? Shit, how did that happen.? In Japan they had many many big name games. It's not like they were Acclaim
Where did you hear that they were insolvent? Everything I've read that this is just a corporate restructuring.
DAMN! O_O one of the few good sw house out there is gone! i loved their works... seems nothing good will come in the future... even studio liverpool has been dismantled :/
Its the thing I don't get. How can you go out of business when you release good games that sell well?
The same thing was said recently about Tales of studio but a little later there were announced some new games from them for PS3. My point? Even in they said about economical problems they have for a period doesn't mean they will close immediately. So there is no need for panic.
Assembler I think you have your info totally wrong. Atlus is not bankrupt or has gone insolvent. What happening is it's parent company (Index Holdings, who has full ownership of atlus) is absorbing it's two divisions (atlus & its cell phone division) into the parent company. http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/30/atlus_index_holdings_merger/ "Index Holdings declared its intentions today to absorb its Atlus and Index subsidiaries. In making this move, the company hopes to more effectively utilize group resources and implement a more efficient business system between divisions. Atlus is most widely known for its Megaten and Persona series of RPGs. Index Holdings became 100% parent company of Atlus through a 2006 stock purchase. Index handles mobile operations for the Index Holdings group. Index Holdings owns over 95% of Index. The merger is expected to take place on October 1 following approval at board meetings for the three involved companies today. While Atlus as a company would cease to exist following the merger, the Atlus brand may live on. According to Impress Watch, an Index Holdings public relations representative said today that game releases would for the time being be under the Atlus brand."
Everytime you are online, you're playing it Anyway, it's a shame yet another classic company is going down...
Sure it's just juggling debts around, but it will no longer have a stock and atlus will become a nameplate just like atari. No longer a company but a brand to slap on things until no longer profitable.
I don't think this will be the same as Atari. Atlus still has viable properties while all Atari really had at the end was its name.
I don't think Atlus even had public stock (at least since being taken over by their parent company). Also it really won't be anything like atari. Atlus it self will still run like it is now and will most likely stay independent internally. If anything changes it will probably be their cell phone division which will probably now leach off some of Atlus properties more. Atlus will still be atlus. ------------------- http://atlus.com/forum/showpost.php?p=215055&postcount=16
Atlus usa is not any sort of entity with any power. Japan pulls the shots and I woudn't be surprised to see them axe a bunch of people here.
For me, Atlus was the hidden backbone of the PC-Engine's life. They programmed Bonk's Adventure, Dungeon Explorer, Legendary Axe II, Valis II, Somer Assault, and made the Kwirk (Puzzle Boy) series among others. Their musicians were often either Masuko Tsukasa or Hirohiko Takayama, who each composed some of the best chip soundtracks ever. Of course, Atlus is more famous for their Megami Tensei series and later games, but those don't interest me much.
