I got a PS2 controller today, totally aware that it's probably counterfeit. It is indeed made in China, but I'd like to be sure anyway before I open it.
ALL Sony controllers after with exception of first revisions of PS1 are made in China. And your photo quality isn't enough to tell the difference between a tram and submarine. If you want people to check something for authenticity - upload bigger photos with better resolution. Anyway... just look at overall package quality, print quality, and most important - buttons. On most fake controllers triangle, circle, square and cross are painted, on genuine those are made of plastic, look glossy and at the same level as rest of the buttons. Also check for spelling errors - there's none on genuine controller package.
So the triangle/square/circle/X button decals should glint in the light just as much as the glossy surface they come through on? Like under the D-pad too there's a glossy " + " the buttons are poking through. Triangle/square/circle/X look like they have a matte finish, but I can see a very slight outline around each button decal. Spelling and grammar are good all over... but some fonts and logos are slightly... off. Here's some better pictures, you should be able to tell what sort of submarine it is now at least.
Idk if it helps, but there's a French typo on the US patent number text on the side (pout instead of pour), but the rest looks very accurate. Also I think it should be brevet instead of licence.
I believe they did come in yellow packaging. It seems so weird to me that they make fake controllers but I guess it makes sense because people will assume if it's actually the Sony manufacture it'll be of good quality.
They did come in yellow packaging - like this one and a cardboard controller + memory card double pack. Also i forgot about the most important part - all genuine black SCPH-10010 controllers have something that looks like silver dust particles in case plastic. With flash or in bright light they look like this: I think there's no fake controller with that stuff in plastic.
Yeah, it's impossible to see buttons in detail and if the surface has those glittery particles in plastic.
Why does the O in Sony look to be in a completely different font on the controller? None of my Dualshocks look that off.
I don't have a great camera. I just noticed that too. This is definitely a fake. One for the internet archive anyway, so stay away from controllers that look like this!
Can do without the attitude. For anyone to help you, it's hard to tell fine details with a low quality camera.
I get that, and I admit the initial pics were a bit shitty, I should have tried harder, but all you contributed was a whine with no cheese. I did actually try to use my scanner to do the back of the package but it didn't turn out real good.
Get over yourself.. People asked for larger photos, and you failed to do so. Continue with this BS, and find your stay rather short.
I "failed" to do so? If I could have, I would have, so I made up for that in effort/quality instead. You seem a bit up there yourself buddy.
If it works well, does it matter if it is a counterfeit or not? Or does it matter because you want to collect/sell a genuine one?
That looks genuine to me. Even the Sony logo. Looks exactly the same as on my phone and my controllers and my old stereo and Walkman....
