Hi Gang, I was wondering if anyone noticed the kinds of avatars people are using these days on the new forums? I don't want to step on anyones toes or restrict peoples rights to freedom of speech, but I've noted that a few people (one being the most notable off the top of my head) have started using rather scantly clad material. While it perhaps technically doesn't violate any of the forum rules (they don't include nudity), it makes it quite difficult to view the forums from public places, or even occasionally from work. While we know it's all in good fun, not everyone else who might be looking at it may feel the same way. Especially if taken out of context by strangers. Perhaps we could get the 'mature content' rules to be updated to include avatar images as well? Or at least size restrictions so that the forums can be more accessible (At least outside the privacy of your own home)? Cheers!
I noticed this as well, been browsing the forums in class (shame on me) and people behind me wouldn't see much else but a page with slutty girls pictures. I also find it a bit immature. I'm not sitting in a 16 year old teenager's room, am I? So why do I have to stare at lame photoshopped/animated girls plastic boobs? -_-
I must apologize for the lack of feathers on my avatar's hen. She is sooooo young and supple that you can just taste those juicy drumsticks over TCP/IP. I couldn't help but use it as my avatar! Just couldn't! On a serious note, I thought they were seeing as they're essentially using women as decoration. Butt it's ok to use sports figures as decoration because they're men or something.
I assume this is about Hexigons avatar. I view at work, just need to be quick on alt tab if his avatar is showing.
Right. We all know where we can find skin, it's a matter of when it's appropriate. I suspect a large portion of Assemblergames forum members work on a regular basis, or view the website from a place other than home. If it's membership were nothing more than a group of teenagers giggling in their room playing video games all summer, then it wouldn't be much of an issue.
There is a difference between discussing in game content and deliberately presenting tits as tits for decorative purposes. Or for that matter discussing the sex scene in God of War 3, however I would still not post images of it directly. Maybe a link with NSFW attached but never up front.
I thought the same thing honestly, but I can't advocate it as a valid position given the standard that pictures of girls in revealing attire isn't a valid thread topic.
Agreed, it's easy to turn off avatars in the forum settings or for those (who do run some kind of ad-blocker) to enable it on an image. However, while these solutions might be alright for some people (Myself perhaps included!), I can't say it might be ok for others. As APE pointed out, there's a principle difference when your talking about legitimate subjects or topics and when your just showing skin for skins sake. I know out of politeness people commonly write "Warning: SPOILERS" or "Warning: NSFW", but there's no opportunity to do so when its in an avatar. Now don't get me wrong, I've easily solved the matter for myself in this regard. But no disrespect to anyone else, I still feel based on principle there's an issue that should be taken care of. We can't expect everyone to install ad-blockers or perhaps loose avatar functionality. Naturally, I don't think anyone has an issue with female avatars (Pictures of yourself, friends, or pink flamingos), but lets be reasonable. Skin for skins sake is a completely different matter. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's spoken up about this before because that's one of the reasons we had to institute a "mature content" notice to begin with.
Probably a good idea. I don't have a problem with it per se, but I can see why most would. Maybe open up a poll and take a vote and see what everyone thinks.
Point taken. Anyhow, was nice a thread to be made about it, a simple noticed would of solved this. I'm sorry if I've made people's viewing difficult on the forum. But since you guys asked so nicely it will be done. All good? I made another one straight away... again, I sincerely apologize to everyone I *might* have offended , I didn't mean to at all. I only thought if a moderator or any of the forum staff didn't note me about it being too mature it was ok. So I'm really sorry guys ><" I feel really horrible.
I quite liked your old Avatar, my only complaint is that it was too big... I do see that you ironically replaced it with Yuka from Variable Geo, which started off as a hentai game. :encouragement:
The same happened to me. I was sitting in my office and was reading one of HeXiGON's posts. Somebody walked into the room and I almost had a heart attack. I literally almost jumped out of my seat and opened a new tab in Firefox. I actually disabled all images on the site after that, just to be safe.
Ah, don't feel bad. It has nothing to do with you personally. Previously we had image issues with users and "mature content" so that's how the first set of rules came about. Rather than ask everyone individually, it would have been better as a community anyway to discuss the matter openly and freely as a whole. That way everyone gets a say, and it isn't some arbitrary thing that gets forced down upon users without any recorse.
Yuka is awesome though! I love the short series, too bad it ended so quickly I know it's a hentai game but, ya know can't see raw boobage this time ROFL, sorry :/ I think it was a little selfish of me though... Well I know it wasn't aimed at me but I felt like it was, as many noted about my avatar. It was the biggest one on the forum and I should apologize for that too. I know how this all came about cause a particular member that starts with H and ends with K posted images of a naked woman cover her bits and bobs with controllers, that I can understand of being mature but I thought mine wasn't that risky but I guess I should have more safe avatars from now on just to be sure
