Never heard of Angry Joe until today seriously. Heres the 1st video I clicked on of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZJ4BiIEhAo Got through about five minutes and thats with skipping. Pretty unwatchable. If anyone outside the US is curious what most gamestop employees are like, watch an angry joe video.
"I feel turrible. I was supposed to be the Champion of the People!" - Angry Joe after being humiliated at the VGAs
They aren't as good as his older ones (I've seen them all many times) but remember James has to sort out his movie (which doesn't look cheap if you understand cameras and production values) and he's about to become a dad. A very busy time indeed.
I liked the Atari Sports video, except for that part where he dismisses NBA Jam. But this video is probably my favorite of his recent videos, simply because it reminds me of going to the video store and looking at all the VHS cover art (and being kind of scared of and also intrigued by the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead etc. covers on the horror shelf, only to realize years later that what I imagined those movies were like as a kid was much scarier than the reality)
I AM NOT JUST THE VOICE OF THE GAMERS, BUT I AM THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS, I STRIKE FEAR INTO GAME DEVELOPERS TO THE POINT THEY RELEASE FREE GAMES TO MAKE UP FOR THEIR EVILS. ALSO I'M STRAIGHT EDGE AND BETTER THAN YOU- Me...channeling somebody else mocking Angry Joe.
Yup, that one was a step up for me from his recent videos. Not that I think the others are bad, but this one I quite enjoyed.
I was too harsh on my first comments about Angry Joe, I watched his famous Geoff Keighley video and a few others and found him to have some good things to say.
I am surprised he is able to come out with stuff that good considering the amount of time he has to do them. Capturing footage alone takes a ton of time, since it's a game part of it depends how fast you can get through a game, then you have the sketches which take hours to shoot. His old ones were amazing, but like you said he had a lot more free time to do them. Friday the 13th I feel was his breakout hit, hit a nerve with me when I watched it when it came out since as a kid my brother, cousins, and everyone I knew had that game. 2nd favorite was his die hard review followed by his ghostbuster and terminator series episodes.I sadly feel his movie is probably going to go straight to dvd due to his internet only fanbase. Got admit though his compilation dvds he puts quite a bit effort compared to most who put their web series dvds.
Considering how his game (especially NES) collection has grown extensively since he started, I daresay he uses at least some of the money from this to expand it, which isn't a bad thing, he's even bought a Saturn since he started, so good for that. I never heard anything about the Cheetamen 2 reproduction, but does it really matter? I mean everyone who would care knows that the game is garbage and can't be saved.
I don't think he ever intended to get his movie into theaters, except maybe some small ones could show it. As for my favorite AVGN episodes: the Ghostbusters ones, the Back to the Future revisit, Action 52/Cheetahmen, the Terminator episodes, NES accessories and The Simpsons (especially since I remember playing those crappy games as a kid)
I don't like the ones with sketches, never thought they were funny at all, although I'll make an exception for the F13 and NOES ones.
The end of the Wizard of Oz one still kills me. "DAYUM you plastered the cartridge on my ceiling with your shit"
I have lots of favorites (minus the skits): Dragon's Lair, Die Hard, Battletoads, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, Star Wars, Zelda II, Pong Consoles, Swordquest, Intel/ColecoVision, Star Trek, Superman 64, Dick Tracy, SEGA CD/32x, Atari 5200, Street Fighter 2010, Power Glove, and Bible games. I especially like the Pong Consoles and Swordquest episodes. They were actually very informative and showed that he doesn't need to be angry to be entertaining. Just no "acting" skits please.
