Come across a few of the DDS-4 tapes and I could do with backing up my hdd's contents so was wondering how easy are they to use? Is there anything I should be aware of, such as compatability across revisions (I've read DAT 72 is backwards compatable with DDS-4, but is it for my intents and purposes a DDS-4 drive?). I'll likely get a DAT 72 USB drive as I don't have any SCSI inputs on my PC.

Other backing up reccomendations would also be appreciated - I have about 600GB I'd like to back up. Is LTO an option? Can you get (free) software to use lTO? I've read a lot of it is proprietry...
