Not at all, Tototek just modified them for PCE before their current products, and even then, that only can playback games, not backup.

Some CD-i games are in CD Ready format which is very hard to back up. Your disc drive must support it, and even then it's still not easy. CD Ready discs have the data track hidden in the lead-in...

then that might be the issue because like 5 of the discs I have seem to have not been dumped online. example DIMO's QUEST

Sorry for bumping an almost 3 year old topic, but there's one thing I'm curious to know how to dump.

How about the best way to dump a Gamecube NPDP cartridge? I know that the carts themselves are basically hard drives, but I'm curious if there is anyway to dump the entire contents of a NPDP? Also, since mostly are Toshiba hard drives, has anyone tried any HDD recovery software to see if there were any files that used to be on the cart but were deleted or overwritten?

I'm curious to know because it's not everyday you see people dumping their NPDP carts.

The fact they're Toshiba drives is independent of being able to use recovery software FYI. If the file system used isn't something recovery software can get at the point is moot.

I have no idea what file system NPDP carts used but I have a feeling Nintendo wouldn't have made it so easy as to have FAT32 on there or at least leave the files in an easily accessible and duplicateable format.

    Addendum:
    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5402

The drives are locked, but a post in there says that there is a master password and if its wrong/doesn't work it is trivial to sniff the IDE bus to get the password out of the thing (at least to the best of my knowledge). I'd suppose after they get unlocked you could dump the drive and see about converting it to an ISO.

But on top of that there is some form of encryption that'd have to be broken first. Probably could sniff out the key for that if Nintendo didn't bother to not transmit it in plain text.

NPDP is pretty easy to dump/decrypt once you have unlocked the HDD.

There are 4 hard coded slots at which .GCM files sit at (encrypted with a 32bit xor key). As tmbinc stated in the above link, if you know the Gamecube disc layout, you'll know there's a large area of 0x00 bytes which when xor'd .. hint hint :)

I haven't done this myself but I have a few npdp carts which need some beta/review games dumped which I'll do when I get around to it.

People should just share how to do this. I know it's fun and all to be
special and one of few to do this, but it's really contrary to
    any spirit of community.

I agree and if the people who knows how to dump 64dd disk could do the same too it will be awesome.

I dumped some NPDP carts yesterday. I went the lazy way and just installed the reader part into a modded standard gamecube and wrote some software which dumps the discs to SD card via SDGecko :) Will write a tut up some day - but it is possible.

Ha, that is a very clever idea. I'd love to see an equivalent for Genesis (I know about the Sega CD dumping method with a special cord, but it's not ideal for my situation).
