Is there any way to do this with any dev hardware out there or ANYTHING? I was under the false impression that a GDEV would be able to accomplish this thanks to a couple people here :banghead: . However I have recently received information that it cannot.

This throws my plans into turmoil, as I really need to backup these discs and explore them for any "beta" finds. I know the PSO exploit works with an NR reader however it seems I require a PAL NR Reader, instead of an NTSC one.

So in conclusion, does anyone know?

Sorry, i'm not into Dev but don't you have just to built in a Pal GameCube drive to turn your NTSC NR-Reader into a Pal unit ?

It does, however once I get into PSO it goes through various signals NTSC on one screen, PAL on another. Its anoying but the main problem comes from when I try to go "online" or create a profile with the PSO NR, The game crashes. I cant get past that point so Im currently trying to find a PAL NR reader, I dont care about a box all I want is the unit itself since it would only be getting use and not some trophy bullshit :110:. I can only assume it is conflicting with the AR NR I have, so my next step is a PAL NR Reader.

On a side note, if anyone knows if its possible to adjust the laser in an NR reader to read retails, some info would be helpful.

  6. Not possible.

...It's the firmware on the laser board that 'reads' an NR disc, the laser itself is no different from Retail.

...In other words Retail is 'looking' for a barcode, NR is not.

Yeah, I just found the topic after I posted that. Darn. Well I tried ripping it with a normal GC, I can confirm that it doesnt work:

Disc stops spinning after the laser makes noises. Attempting more use with the PSO NR I have, Will report findings.

Engineer, this is posed at you. Cant I run both NR's AND retail games on a Gdev? if so whats stopping me from using a retail PSO, then putting in an NR at the above screen? Id guess the lack of BBA..unless Gdev has something similar?

Tried the PSO NR again, still crashes and switches back to a PAL signal (which isnt a problem as I have it going into my tv card). This really bites!

If anyone knows how to defeat region check on an NR reader that could be of help as well.

To entice more help here, If I do get this working I can rip anyones NR's if they would send them to me, I realize that demands a LOT of trust and I dont even think Id do it if the roles were reversed however as long as its insured for a boatload of cash it should work out ok.

This really looks like its an issue related to the Freeloader im using, Check it out. Heres the menu, then when I click anything that goes into a new menu mode (which I suppose changes the signal back to PAL) it somehow conflicts and tries to send both pal and ntsc and then boom?

After these lines appear I can change the signal to PAL, which works however the NR Reader just keeps spinning the disc in one spot, not reading at all.

Edit: Menu's show in NTSC_433, and PAL_B (probably other PAL signals). When I try to go the menu and the lines appear/crash, I can change it to NTSC_M and it displays FINE.

Edit AGAIN: Eureka, problem is found! After going into the provider option menu (which crashes) this is displayed:

That pretty much confirms that this is a PAL/NTSC signal switch issue most likely caused by the Freeloader. :noooo:

SOMEONE SELL ME A PAL NR READER!!!

Just a thought, Tried holding Z on the boot of the freeloader and seen if you can force it to a region like a retail disc?

My offer still stands, unless you want to make an "interesting" offer on my NR reader and all the disks (seeing as I have them to use and not just to stick on my shelf)

No luck, I do hear these children laughing..which im assuming is some kinda..uh I really dont know am I going insane? Anyway once I get into the Freeloader you are right, Z does bring up the menu. I hit PAL but it still crashes when going int ONLINE mode. :crying:

Got an offer for a PAL NR Reader though, so this is really a non issue anymore. Ill report my findings when I get the PAL NR Reader.

One problem, it seems youve been greatly misled.

GDEV units have absolutely nothing to do with NR discs, they only read NPDP cartridges.

It is possible to backup your NR discs using an NR version of action replay or PSO, but I currently have the same issue as you (I have a PAL PSO, and an NTSC NR reader)

It is not a good idea to offer NR backups, as I believe they would be pirated onto mini-dvd using a chip method, which is NOT good atall.

    Just my 2 cents

I meant I'd back up people's for their OWN use. What they do with it after that is their own decision. Its more of a peace of mind thing really, since the disc format does stop working eventually.

This is why we really need good info on the Wiki.. :\

Yeah thats all well and good but if you backup an NR of, lets say Zelda, a work in production, then whoever ends up with the backup has the potential to earn mega money on ebay

Not really any different from when someone sells their original, however as soon as the first "backup" is sold, its on P2P thus negating any future profits.
