Hiya... Does anying have instructions on how to do this?? I've got the screen and the 40 pin ribbon cable but I am unable to get the screen to come on... Is there a way to test it? I've also seen some cables need soldering to the board and some don't... I've contacted the seller but thought I'd ask on here first... Ta!
Take pictures of what you have please. There is a version of the adapter that needs a cable soldered and one that doesnt. Depends on the ags screen youre using.
40 pin model serial starts with a 0, shouldn't need soldering. Should power on right away if connected properly. However, I've heard they still need soldering sometimes anyway.
Check to see if you got the ribbons the right way around. I've done this mod a few times and just about every time make this mistake.
Here's some info on the adapter types vs. screen types: And a video tutorial of the entire process: Some of the links may be outdated (you might have to source your cables on ebay or aliexpress).
Cheers for that!!! Just got some pics too... 40 pin cable I've seen some people solder them and some not... wasn't sure where to solder onto the cable cause I couldn't see which one people soldered it to... I saw where on the gameboy... just not the cable...
You can download a pdf guide here: https://rosecoloredgaming.wordpress.com/downloads/ You may have to connect RECV to GND, otherwise it will be far too bright and washed out. Info here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/gba-backlight-agb-001.328487/page-35
Woop!!! I was looking for that pdf!!! I found it which is why I decided to do it but lost it when I needed it!!! Although a quick scan of that thread... is there two versions of t screen???
The screen isn't lighting up at all... will adjusting the potentiometer affect that? Or is th screen pooped?
Did you solder the wire from the ribbon cable to power as described in the guide? Missing this step would is the only thing I can think of that would cause the backlight not to turn on.
Hopefully should ge it tested tomorrow! Live in the north east UK and there was a marathon running today so would have been a trauma getting into town where my studio is...
meh.... not looking good... how cani test if itsthe cable or screen thats knackered... without buying an sp... i've tested 2 gba's with 2 different cables... both work with the original sceen but neither work with the new one... its a type b screen... have i got the right adapter??
Nothing at all... I did continuity testing on all the pins on the ribbon cable so I know it isn't that... I know the screen is a type b as it has the even... umm... threads(???) In the cable and the white tab on the end...
