Bacteria's portable DreamCast handheld console - IntoDream

Spent literally all day on this issue, FIXED IT!

I had two loose wires - some nifty wiring needed; works! I was about to strip the board for parts, however wanted "one last try", that failed, however when lifted up the DC board one wire dropped, then a second one.

So, back on course again. Will try and make things more compact now I have the chance...

 

Ok, made the drive board as flat as I can, hot glued it in place (to three or so places), used ribbon cable extender made before and also the drive extender cables made before; removed the a/v ports and wired to the trace contacts instead. All works fine. Will look into the case halves themselves and see if there is anything there that will give me any grief; then will re-assemble the system - will have a bit of time in the next days, may get it done then, otherwise Monday...

 

Thought I had a big problem yesterday, initially, got video ok, however after a couple of minutes the video image got shaky and shortly afterwards went off; the audio was still on. The drive unit was making a racket too; turned system off and on again, and just got a few beeps and power down.

Dismantled system, it worked fine - anyway, turned out the batteries were drained!

Recharged the cells, reassembled the unit, works fine.

After running the system for about 20 mins, the chip on the drive board remained only just warm, so no heat issues there.

Will assemble the unit later today, and hope/expect it to work ok this time around, as things are secured properly now and flattened as can be.

 

First attempt a short while ago to close case - back to system menu as the disc was catching on the enclosure and stopping the disc spinning. Adjusted the posts securing it on the back by 1mm and all ok - yes that tight. Also, 3 lines on the VMU missing - fixed that with another small tube of plastic and hot glue.

Second attempt - finally all working, and sealed shut! Working great!

Over the next days when I have time, my agenda is:

* Clear desk
* Edit my previous WIP videos for this project to try and make everything under 10 mins, including new footage.
* Make a construction to support camera above my head, angled, to take videos showing games being played, etc on IntoDream - certainly Quake 3, and some other games to, including PenPen, Unreal Tournament and Sonic - probably have a couple of such dedicated videos
* Make another mini video - removing game ports from boards, and uploading it
* Do my commission I took on - modding a bluetooth controller into a PS1 controller
* Upload my IntoDream project for all to see
* Then, start my video log project for making an N64 portable - from start to end.... (lots of mini videos)
