Hey Guys Got back from Aus to find this by my front door... http://imgur.com/a/IU8XL yeah that's the item i wanted for nearly 4 years... smashed to peaces :'( thrown in a box with some printing paper and no protection, the poor console had no chance! share your horror stories :'(
How long as was it at your door for (if you know) maybe someone also jumped on it... That's what it looks like. Sorry to hear about that, I was just facepalming at all the images hate seeing dev hardware damaged. Apparently $3 extra for bubblewrap is too much money.
my parents took it in when it got delivered so the damage was done on its journey from the states to my door
Aww, that's bad. Sorry to see that happen Sneakypeanut. Always no good to see stuff get damaged regardless. Makes me somewhat glad I wasn't able to get one of the items in my top five "Holy Grail" list because it being a glass... no doubt it probably would've gotten the same treatment as that dev 360. Is there anything that can be saved from that unit (I've no idea about Xbox or 360s in general so I can't be sure from the pictures)?
Arf it happens. When I sold my Set 4 (which in hindsight I could have just swopped the PSU and hoped for the best) the HDD came loose and knocked a few parts loose The package had no insurance. I did offer to pay for the cost of repairs, but I was skint and the buyer didn't take me up on the offer. Maybe they repaired it themselves. Still, I feel sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear that. I hope it was sent insured - always pay for insurance if it's something valuable, even sentimental value! I think we've all had packaging nightmares. I've had a birthday present sent from the States in a big Jiffy bag. It included breakfast cereal, which was squashed to hell, and books, which tore through the packaging but fortunately didn't fall out! One of the worst was when I ordered some replacement hinge parts for a DS on eBay. He sent them in a plain envelope! The envelope tore where they were all pointy and half the parts were missing! He didn't believe that I hadn't just taken the parts out, so I sent him a photograph and told him I've never seen that in all my life - at least use a small Jiffy bag! He said he's never had a problem!!
I think we've all suffered this before, certainly not on the scale of your loss.... The last time it happened to me was I imported a sealed copy of Fahrenheit for Sega CD/32X since the 32X version was never released in the UK and the guy didn't wrap it in bubble wrap so it came clattering through my front door and smashed the 32X CD, I was not impressed. Sellers who don't wrap cardboard box games properly also need to go back to packaging school.
luckerly i know my stuff when it comes to repairing things. but it will never be perfect so my hunt will go on for another XNA Prototype... atleast the electronics is fine just the case is smashed
this isn't nearly as bad as yours, but I bought a absolutely mint NES challenge set in a perfect box about a year ago, but when the package arrived at my door, the seller had sent it using the system box as the shipping box. So there was tape all over it, a bunch of shipping stickers and some punctured holes through the box. I still have it even though it looks like crap.
A little common sense in packaging the item would have alleviated this issue... seems common sense is hard to come by, you need to give specific instructions these days seeing how many muppets exist.
People are stupid. You need to tell them how to pack things, down to how to tape the box. I received a rare cd writer yesterday, it was placed in a manilla folder and mailed. Arrived bend in half.
You would think packaging is easy, but some people will always find a way to make sure that your stuff arrives damaged. I bought a boxed Mega CD model 1 and it came packaged only in a single layer of brown packaging paper. Some boxed SNES games wrapped in sheets of A4 printing paper and the delivery guy pushed them trough the mail slot. Another boxed SNES game, this time I specifically asked to send it in a box. I received a huge box with the game just thrown in there, no bubble wrap or padding. Same thing happened to a Mega Drive with accessories and games. And of course PAL Dreamcast games always arrive in an envelope filled with pieces of plastic.
