From wikipedia: "Bahamut Bahant Senki (translated as Record of the Bahamut War) is a Square Co., Ltd. tactical role-playing game developed for the Sega Mega Drive in 1991. It was only released in Japan and is the only Square game produced for a Sega console. The game offers a unique soundtrack for each of the many playable "races" in the game, and has various levels of gameplay that ranged from arcade Archon-style creature-on-creature combat to strategy similar to the System Soft strategy games like Gemfire and Nobunaga's Ambition. Two-player games are also an option, given the variety that the game offered with the occasional arcade action battle to break up the quiet strategy and planning." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahamut_senki A game by Squaresoft for a Sega platform??? Everybody knows that we can not always trust wikipedia, but is this true by any chance true? I don't see the name "Square" anywhere in the game, nor even in the boxart. Maybe Square had a deal with Sega to keep their participation in this gamea secret since they were working with Nintendo at the time, but I doubt so. Any info about this one?
I thought you were talking about Bahamut Lagoon for a second there until I saw this: http://www.geocities.jp/yu_1387/ It kind of looks like Fire Emblem, IMO. I'd like to know more about this game, too. EDIT: I just found some ROMs for it, but I can't link to them or It would be breaking the rules. EDIT 2: http://www.genesiscollective.com/ShowPage.php?GameLink=708 Looks interesting. I wouldnt mind trying it out.
I *TRIED* to play the game, but it is so kanji-heavy I kind of gave up. I know some Japanese, but this game requires perfect knowledge of the language. I may however try to make my way through the game again... It looks more like Sangokuchi to me... Also, I found this at vgrebirth (http://vgrebirth.org/articles/segabase/volume3.asp) : "Both Enix and SquareSoft continued their efforts for Nintendo, although Square did take the time to dabble with the Genesis hardware with Bahamut Senki - which was later reissued in a superior remake as Bahamut Lagoon for SNES. It would be the only Square title to ever put in an appearance on a Sega console." However, I'm still NOT convinced Square had anything to do with the game. Look at the boxcover: http://img3.store.yahoo.co.jp/I/gmax_1900_98196079 It shows NOTHING about Square. I'd really like to take a look at the game's credits and list the programmers/artists involved with the game. But a game this hard to even *read* is impossible for me to finish... Is there any way to hack the rom in order to see the game's credits? Any suggestions?
Bahamut wasnt exactly COINED by Sqaure. They borrowed it from Dungeons and Dragons. (Which borrowed it from Mythology) Im interested in this. According to its Game profile at Vgrebirth, it isnt listed as a Square game... I'd like to also know whether FFT was Bahamut Lagoon before or if this was the first. It may be possible this is a real Square game and was later remade into Bahamut Lagoon and maybe accidentally thought of as FFT, but I dunno...
just search the ROM with a hex editor or even windows commander will work (i think). You should be able to come up with something. Yakumo
After a VERY extensive search, I came across this site: http://www.geocities.jp/kisaran_ragiran/bahamut/index.html I'm not proficient in Japanese, but I could make my way through some parts of the site. Anyway... after a long search I stumbled upon this page: http://www.geocities.jp/kisaran_ragiran/bahamut/ending.html This page lists the name of the programmers involved with the game... I do not know these people (I believe their real names are not always listed, only nicknames.... what the hell Muumin is anyway???? It can not be a name! *summons Yakumo's help*). I also tried to open the rom in a hex editor... and look what I found: SEGA MEGA DRIVE (C)SEGA 1990.DECWar History in BAHAMUT GM 00004521-00 No mention from square at all... (by the way, what does this DEC mean?) If Square had ANYTHING to do with the production of this game they sure found a way to keep it hidden....
Sure, you only have to hope that a) the credits are actualy saved up as text and not as plain tiles (aka graphics) b) if its saved up as text its not compressed (which is not usual but neither unusual too...if i remind correctly the SD3 credits were compressed). Try to grab out a savestate from somewhere, im sure you'll be able to find one. And if there is no one, then congrats, you just got a nice homework to do for the summer DEC = December? BTW, at which offset did you find the text you mentioned? Well, on the wikipedia page they say SEGA published the game...so prolly they "borrowed" the programmers from Square ? The title screen on BW says (c) SEGA 1991... Besides, Bahamut Lagoon (which i deeply hacked btw : http://ynt.darkmazda.com/index.php?section=bahamut) was released in 1996. Both games surely seem connected in some way..not only by the nature of the game...i dont remember having seen anything about a previous Bahamut game in BL tho. EDIT : Quote : "this game is the worst game ever and the storyline is horrible"
Lol, that's true... Yeah, that must be it... Thanks! I'm not very good with hex editors... I just opened the thing and it appeared. Anyway, just try opening the file with the windows notepad and the same text will appear...
There is a Chinese translation as well http://www4.emu-zone.org/j2c/web/SoftView.asp?SoftID=598 It has a hacked intro screen.... but it does not display properly on Gens... are there Chineses here who can help us?
You need to use Gens Surreal. I provided a link for the emulator a while back for the other Chinese games you dug up (the thread's here).
Yeah, I know it. The problem is that the company name screen in the rom is corrupted or something. The rom boots on gens as well. So.. nobody was able to search the rom for info? I don't know how to do it and using a HEX editos was fruitless for me... (mainly because I do not know what to look for :110
