Nice find!! SO how different is it from the original? I'd be interested to see if it has the edge16 modem code in it. I've got an edge 16 modem here myself, but the final version of the game doesn't appear to detect the modem. I'm guessing the code was removed at the last minute.
Here's the link to @Lunchbox 's thread about the modem implementation in Ballz: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/genesis-at-t-edge16-modem.63742/ If you're willing to dump the cartridge to a ROM for computer analysis, this would indeed be the most interesting bit to look for. If you're in the US and are looking for dumping help, feel free to PM me. If you're elsewhere, I'm sure another more local member would step up to the plate.
Thanks! I have a Retrode & I'm planning on dumping this cart with it soon. I'll keep everyone posted!
**Update: I copied the .bin file (Uuwwwa'wwawwwawwvW5555.bin) with my Retrode. The bin is huge, almost 8mb & won't boot in any emulator! Proto Header: Retail Header I'm trying to get a hold of my genesis to see if it will boot...
interesting... it should boot on an everdrive I'd think. let me know if you can't get it to boot and I can give it a shot here
Good News! I got it to boot on my Genesis "Ultimate Portable Game Player"! Takes forever to load! I'll hook this to my TV and post a video soon!
Let me know if you're willing to share the rom. Id like to try and test it with the Edge16 Modem to see if the hardware activates any menus in the game. The final version didn't seem to do that, but does retain the graphics for the edge modem option on the title screen.
