So I've been deploying a uniform inventory management solution across all the stores for my company. Previously stock was tracked using just the manufacturer bar-codes, which are not uniform and sometimes intersect one another.. So we switched to our own bar-code system, using 3x1.5 cm labels.. It's much nicer, both visually and in the sense of actual management. I've tried to catalog my collection in the past and it just doesn't pan out well, not everything has a unique ID printed on them and I have trouble reading long strings of numbers sometimes So I'm thinking of just using custom barcodes for my collection, has anyone every done something similar. in terms of where to put the catalog, I was just going to pick some ecommerce software and modify it to remove all cart functions. Why ecom? Most software is designed for the above (issue I was having at work) problem, nearly all free ones I've looked at support a dual SKU system (mft and custom), so things like console serials can be logged. Just have to find one that supports bulk management via excel.. The other added benefit is I can host the catalog! My collection is getting to the point, where I don't know what I have already when I'm out shopping or the condition of certain games! BAD I KNOW! thoughts or opinions? thanks
atm I'm slowly starting to catalog my collection and put them in a google sheet so I can pull it up on my phone but really I would love an app on par with Pat Contri's Ultimate NES app that includes all other systems. I love when I'm out hunting I can quickly look up a nes game, see some screenshots, see if I already own it or have it in my want list, also see what the general price is to know if the price is a good buy or not without having to surf ebay in the store. My only complaint with the app is cataloging stuff can be slow (a web portal or barcode/photo scanner would make things much nicer).
Maybe qr codes may be a good solution to the issue? You could store name, version, storage place, price you bought it etc in just one shot
I'm gonna give Libib and probably RetroCollect a swing. I had stuff in Excel and Google Drive, but I'm more looking for a nice(r) cloud solution. Some other options I came across: backloggery.com collectorz.com datacrow.net grouvee.com raptr.com www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/wiki/collectionspreadsheet vgcollect.com
Well the barcode would bring up an entire page on the game. Like if you type an sku into an online store. Each “product” would have photos and condition report eventually
From my understanding of then they are, also if you plan a dedicated software to it you could use the data amount and some special chars to create the formatting for your software I.e. adding a special char for each entry Like 1)gametitle2)place3)pricebought and have the software translate it in a convenient format. http://qrcode.meetheed.com/question3.php?s=s Here you can see how much data can be fit in a qr code... up to 4000 alfanumeric chars! Sure that it's for the biggest qr codes but I'm sure even medium size ones can contain more than enough data for your needs. Btw I've away wondered why no-one made such a software for archiving stuff. Edit: http://qrcode.meetheed.com/qrcode_make_one.php See how much can be fit in with this simple software.
