video projector - which model is worth buying?

I'm interested in getting a video projector. Last weekend I had the chance to play Xbox360 with an old Incofus video projector. It was really great and now I must have such a thing, too :icon_bigg

but I'm very unsure which is it worth buying. It should be HD ready and it should have connectors for all my game systems. So HDMI, Component and RGB-SCART would be fine. Unfortunately projectors with all these connectors are hard to find.

The other problem: DLT projectors are expensive, 3LCD projectors are cheaper but are they as good as DLT units? I would like to play first person shooters and I don't wan't any motion blur. My limit is 1.000 Euro.

I heared the Sanyo PLV-Z4 or Panasonic PT AE 700E should be good units.

Does anyone here has experience with projectors? I would be happy about any help

Go for Epson TW-600, it's the best thing you can get under 1200 euros.

Yeah, I was about say the 325i's are nice, but the 7 series is where its really at

Well anyways. Is an old school CRT projector out of the question? Something like the Sony VPH 1041 or a similar Barco. They can generally be had for between $50-$300 USD if you know where to look. Max 1600x1200 resolution, 300 inch viewing areas are not uncommon :eek:h:

I almost picked one of these things up to use for gaming a few years back for around $120, but didn't have anyway to transport it home.

For future-proofing, see if you can get one that can do 1080p over HDMI/component.

I hear the Panasonic PT-AE900U and the Sanyo PLV-Z4 or might be Z5 now are pretty much the best around. Though Check around for reviews.

I don't think I'm allowed to post ebay auctions, but search for sony and barco. The ones I'm referrering to are 7"-8" CRT's. THE PROJECTORS ARE EXTREMELY LARGE. They originally retailed for $20k-$30k in the mid 90's, made for large conference rooms and stadiums, built like tanks. RGBHV inputs too.

thank you guys. Actually I'm focused on the Panasonic PT AE 900E and Sanyo PLV-Z4. The Panasonic has a RGB SCART connector, but it costs 200 Euro more than the Sanyo. I'm not sure if it is worth. Although I have a SNES, N64 and PC Engine - all with RGB SCART.

1080p units are too expensive for me. Furthermore I don't have a next gen system. Maybe I will buy a Xbox360 if it becomes a new and quiet revision.

I don't want a big and noisy unit. I know I could save al lot of money if I would buy such a tank, but I'm more interested in a new model which is compact and silent.

sorry about the word beamer - it's common in germany to call a video projector 'beamer'.

Wow, those are suprisingly nice ones, especially the Sanyo. Looks like it has HDMI too. I might look into getting one of these instead of a rear TV.

So what do you call BMW's for short then?

Yes, I know that the thread is about projectors, but far be it from me to pass up an opportunity to post REAL BMW's. The modern ones are all over-laden techno-toys with too many driver assists.

i can wholeheartedly recommend the Panasonic PT AE 900 , too. I have one of those and it rocks hard. Check the "tubo games room" thread in the collection subforum for some pix.

    wow, that looks awesome. :eek:h:

Do you use a SCART RGB cable for your old systems or is it s-video?

The Panasonic PT AE 900 is more expensive than the Sanyo Z4, but the Panasonic has a SCART connector which is great for old systems. The Sanyo unfortunately doesn't have such a connector. But I heared that you can use a d-sub -> scart/rgb adapter. Is that true?

Honestly, if you're going for a projector, Infocus is a great name to go by. And they're not crazy expensive.
