Right now my only concerns are gaining a visa and finding work. I'm a Network administrator and repair electronics on the side. I'm not fluent in japanese but I am able to read and write in japanese hiragana/katakana and I know the grammar. At one point I was able to hold simple conversations but I'm way out of practice.

If anyone can provide any insight you'd be helping me a great deal. Thanks!

You're going to need to at least JLPT 2 (or some equivalent) a college degree and certificates to help back up your Network Admin experience (CCNA etc).

Have you been to Japan before, GoodTofuFriday? Is that why you'd like to move there?

not a bad place to visit from time to time but personally I will never live there - don't think I can transform myself to fit in their society mould -L-

It's becoming harder and harder to get by professionally without Japanese language skills these days. Your best bet are firms that have established English as their official language like Rakuten and Fast Retailing but be warned that the reality is not that. Also, the local offices of foreign companies like Google and Apple can work but you obviously need to be qualifed enough to get in.
