Seems retrocdn.net uploaded some issues of mega drive beep magazine. One article seems to be covering a preview of Final Fight CD. Hard to figure out if devs are interviewed based on google lens but seems like they’re covering an early version of the game. Anyone know Japanese who can tell if article mentions who is developing the game or any interesting tid bits?
Don't have time to translate the entire thing, but it mentions that Capcom are providing extensive cooperation to the development staff. The development was being carried out by an external team (not a sega subsidiary) comprised of 7 members(4 on graphics and 3 programmers). The mega cd version developers will use the original materials and boards as a base and then the arcade original's development staff will be keeping an eye on the progress and offering advice and helping with any problems that arise. The close cooperation with Capcom during development is what the magazine were hyping up anyway.
Perfect exactly what I was looking for. Explains how close the graphics were. The localization for the US/Euro version is still a mystery. I asked Al Nielsen and Tom Kalinskie on twitter who was in charge of that game and neither knew. Kalinskie himself said he wasn’t even sure if SOA localized it or Capcom. I do know western version of the game uses the exact same script as the snes localization. Well one part of FF CD development has been revealed.
