This was found on a chinese site. Pretty rare find I think as I haven't seen or ever even heard of it. As far as I know it was made in '96 the same time as the genesis counterpart. You can consider it abandonware. Edit: You have to have the game burned to disc and in your cd drive in order to play it. Mounting won't work.

Hopefully this is rare enough of an item to warrant a post here. :)

It was originally 600mb~. I don't know what to say about the size. it just is...what it is.

    Yes, this is that game.

I forgot to mention two things. First, you install by choosing SETUP.EXE in the main folder. Whether your pc needs to be set to chinese or not I don't know. Second, there's a demo of another game in the EMP folder which is installed the same way. Some strategy rpg that I'm clueless about.

That isn't "Beggar Prince", per se, it is the original Chinese version of the game, 新乞丐王子 (aka "Myth On Light"), ported to Windows and released by C&E in 1998. If you have played the Chinese ROM dump of the game (for Genesis / Mega Drive) that has been floating around forever, you have basically played this already. Although between the two I'd recommend trying the Genesis original, because the PC port wasn't superbly tested and is known to crash ever so often. It can also run slow on some machines, run with display issues, etc.

The PC version uses a CD-audio soundtrack which sounds like the music played through a poor MIDI synth and recorded digitally. That's why you're looking at such a large download size. Most all of the music sounds better in the Genesis version. However, the sound effects are recorded at a higher quality sampling rate in the PC release, so there's that. The colors are also a bit brighter in the PC version. If you type in "CNE" during play, you will activate a cheat that allows you to run quickly on the map at all times, and save your game anywhere.

You do not need a Chinese version of Windows, nor Chinese font support installed on your computer in order to play the game. But it is in Chinese, nevertheless.

Of course, the download links in the original post point to a pirated copy of the game, as C&E never gave anyone permission to share the game for free. Not that anyone seems to be too worried about that... :I

Please, don't discuss piracy of my company's video game product in this forum. Have some respect.

You can buy this product! To talk about dumping it would be
    inappropriate and insulting.

We are very fortunate to have some people releasing old
software. They post new releases and info on these forums.
To have them come back to the forum and see people inquire
about piracy of their product (spoken about openly) is
    a slap in the face.

In his defense I'm somewhat doubting he even knew Mr Sound About is Death Adder. I mean, unless you click the name and look at the profile you don't really know..

I see the link was removed but it's not really a concern anyway.....heh :p

I wasn't requesting, I was curious, I figured it would be widely distributed fairly quickly. Sorry to ruffle feathers.

Just out of curiosity, Mr. Sound-About, what if any measures did you take to prevent piracy of Beggar Prince? Not asking for any specific details. I bought one of the first run copies which I was really pleased with. Although... I was a little disappointed when it was re-released with better cover work and the vague mention of incompatibility with the CDX.

    Copy protection.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear you were pleased.

Understandable. It was our first commercial product, and we learned a lot from it.
