what do you think is the best neo geo game small money can buy? my picks are puzzle bobble for mvs and fatal fury special for aes (for now, just starting out)
Nam 1975, Burning Fight and Sengoku are decent games imo. Homecarts I'm talking. MVS wise, quite a few i think unless prices have jumped the last couple of years. Slug X was $20 or less for example.
Best bang for the buck? Depends on what your limit is. Lets say $30. On MVS I vote, Metal Slug X - Just so much to do in that game from mastering your score and uncovering secrets to 1CC attempts and trying to just knife all of the soldiers. Great game that can be found for $30. On AES I vote for a platformer, and I'm choosing between Blues Journey, Magician Lord and Ninja Combat. If it were me? Although Magician Lord is one of my favorite games on the Neo Geo, its VERY difficult to beat which leads to extreme frustration. Ninja Combat isn't worth the money. Its a terrible beat 'em up thats not worth anymore of my time typ.... That leaves Blue's Journey. While not the most stunning, it has a charm about it that keeps me going back for more almost 20 years after playing it for the first time. Ypou get to choose different paths, have multiple powerups and there is a great challenge to it. Its definitely worth the $30. Trust me, you'll have a great timne!
Unless your a hardcore collectors get an MVS converter (like a 32x slots into cart port) and buy the MVS versions of the games Metal slug 3 i think it was was over $200 mvs is or uses to be less thn $20
How well do the 100-1 carts work? I was thinking of finding an adapter and one of these carts for my AES? Am I likely to suffer major graphics issues with the double conversion?
I've never had any experience with them because I think they are wrong. But I'm not sure it will work in a converter. Could be wrong.
If you get one that isnt dirt cheap chinese shit it should work. Jedite1 (youtube) had one and said his was pretty good, played anything he threw at it
I don't really believe in them either but I have just started my home cart collection with limited funds and wouldn't mind the chance to play a few games on actual hardware until the funds become available to buy them for real.
MVS wise, very good and still comparably cheap bangs are: Garou Mark of the Wolves (the best NG fighter, ~50 Euro) Windjammers (priceless multiplayer classic, ~25 Euro I guess) Samurai Spirits 2 (superb Katana action, ~25 Euro) Other breathtaking MVS efforts that don't cost you a fortune: Blazing Star (the best NG shooter if you ask me, costs about 50 Euro) Pulstar Twinkle Star Sprites Viewpoint Metal Slug 1, X, 3
arrived today, it's actually quite nice. it's indeed a good bang for the buck, plenty of games and contrary to popular believe i encountered no glitches, everything works. will keep you updated if i encounter any glitches etc. p.s.: i will keep collecting originals of course, because there are a lot of hacks and dupes on the cart and many gems missing, like waku waku 7.
Samurai Shodown II is a wonderful and very inexpensive AES cart. Pretty much all MVS games are cheap, especially if you don't care about owning full kits. I'd recommend titles like Metal Slug 3, Garou Mark of the Wolves, Twinkle Star Sprites, Bust-A-Move, King of Fighters 98, etc.
Those carts seem really dodgy though. Aren't some of the ROMs incomplete? That thing has got to be about 5GB (?) to really have all those games on it. Or maybe I'm completely missing something. Has anyone here extensively tested one because they seem too good to be true to me. I'd be interested to see internals.
I have scans of a number of the "in 1" MVS carts. http://mvs.gotwalls.com/index.php/Main_Page#Bootleg_-_Multigame -ack
