    Hi everyone!

ok so I'm looking to get a better optical drive for my PC, what would be the best one to get?

Is there some kind of universally agreed on model?

    Basically:

Best CD Burner (IDE or SATA)
Best DVD Burner (IDE or SATA)
or Best COMBO drive (IDE or SATA)

Also I want to get some good CD-r media, I've read that the JVC (Taiyo Yuden) [J-CDR-TWY-SB] CD-r's are good but is there anything better?

Is there any kind of 'silver bottom' CD-rs (of good quality) out there?

The idea is to have something that will last (both the discs and drive) and have media that works well with my consoles.

Thanks, look forward to everyone's thoughts :)

I have been using TDK CD-R and DVD-R for a very long time and I never had a single problem with them. Very good quality at a reasonable price.

Do your research here, they compare media vs burner vs burning speed vs firmware version.

You will get some proper facts rather than "works for me" and "burn at slowest speed".

Unfortunately I couldnt give you a suggestion, as when I did my research and bought my selection of burners to cover various media types - the drives are now different.

I use a Yamaha CRW-F1 for CD-Rs. It works great with saturn/dreamcast/audio-players with CDRs up to 99minutes. It is considered a very, very, good burner, although it's a bit old (2002) and can be hard to find. I use the USB version CRW-F1UX.

A high end Plextor drive is also typically very good, but their recent drives are not as good as they were back int he mid 2000s.

Pioneer have really good burners. I've been using a combo one cd-dvd burner for years and it works really well.
