What CDR's are best for burning PSX backup games? Right now I have HP and TDK, my HPs do not work, however my TDKs work great every time, (unless the source file is bad.). My question is there any others? I'm currently looking at Sony and was wondering if they are okay, how about TDK now that they got bought out (I forgot who at the time of this writing), the TDK's I'm currently using are 1 year old. I'm hoping people are having good results with Sony because I can get a good deal on 100 right now.

    Thanks!

PS. What burner software should I be using burn these games? I've noticed that if the file has many files in the .bin format for Audio files it almost fails every time. I'm currently using 'ImgBurn' and 'Alcohol 120%', but fail when it comes to .bin files for music tracks. What I don't understand the OpenEmu works with these files fine. :/

I miss those old kodak gold disc, they seemed to work really good for me.
Mind you i used then when cd's were still 74 mins, dunno how well the 80 min ones stack up.

Does a CD-R manufactured long ago degrades in quality/recordability? Or is its lifetime really starting once it's burned?
By long ago I mean a few decades, and let's assume it's properly stored in a dry dark drawer.

Expect them to last no more than 10 years because some of these builds I've ripped from those didn't like to exist at all.
I say JVC Taiyo Yuden because of quality. Alternatively TDK as they make nice discs too.

Assuming they're stored properly then the lifetime begins once it's burned. An unburned disc can have disc rot if stored improperly or suffer from bad dye even if you haven't burned it.

for me, the mitsui gold master disc don't read as well as say the Mitsubishi Chemical Blue Cyanine BUT are supposed to last up to 300 years under proper storage. so great for archiving, but not for reading all the time. Blue Cyanine or AZO have been the best as far as getting close to a pressed disc for read stress on a laser.

    JVC never made TY discs.

TY licensed the JVC brand for selling their media, as it was more well known brand in the west.

Ad, i just looked it up and you are correct, they had a majority holding in JVC's magnetic and optical media and got the JVC name for their products. still sad they aren't manufacturing anymore.

TDK all the way. I've been using TDK for the last 20 years and never had a problem. Not even once. I've used them for all manner of consoles, digital data, audio and video.

You should be aware though that depending on which country you live will depend upon where your brand of discs are made. My TDK discs may not be from the same factory as your TDK discs. The same goes with any brand.

By the way, I wouldn't use the top end Mitsubishi discs for all consoles. Some have a hard time reading the blue surface.

Yakumo, all my consoles read blue bottom better than the green bottoms. When I looK at the voltage draw with green bottom discs, the lasers use more current. I would burn blue bottom Taiyo or Mitsubishi and even a shot laser reads them... my Saturn was dependent on them until I upped the trim pot

TDK cdrs in japan ARE taiyo yuden if labeled "made in japan". but all you will find is old stock ...... new cdrs are surely made in india or china, like verbatim and other brands.

TDK cdrs in europe have been taiyo yuden too - back in the 90ies ....... afterwards they were made by CMC, Ritek or other companys and could differ in quality alot.

I don't think there really is a "best" Some discs work better in some devices than others. A cheaper disc could work better than the most expensive in some cases. Everything I've tested has a similarly limited lifespan. I haven't done any tests in several years though so maybe that's changed. I've been using SOHOT for several years now. It works well on picky consoles without having to mess with the laser. I guess I have some that are about 7-8 years old by now that are still working fine. Best bang for the buck in my opinion as they're dirt cheap.

Thanks all for the replies.. :) Yeah, I only have TDK (US where they made I don't know I can't find the label from the spindle), and HP (again I don't have the label so I don't know where they are made either. :( ) CD-Rs and only the TDKs are working on my Playstation 7100. I just saw deal on Sony and was wondering if they where okay to use. But TDKs where only a little more so I went with them.

As for using Taiyo Yuden, HOLY COW, are they expansive, I think I will stick with TDK for what doing. :/

I've seen bargain brands that were Taiyo so that Definitely is true at times.
