So I've been thinking, what are the best really cheap, easy to find games in the retro community? Like games that can easily be found for under $5 or $10 (boxed, for the Genesis if possible)? I'll start off with some classics, like Super Mario Bros and SMB/Duck Hunt on the NES, Sonic 2 and NHL 94 (or most of the EA Sports Genesis games are good and cheap). Anyone know of a lot more?
I purchased the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat 3 CIB for $5 at a pawn shop called Splitstone. Also an Exchange I went to had rows and rows of CIB Xbox games for $5 a pop.
We live in the same city, if you aren't looking to buy, you can borrow some from me. I have a pretty fucking huge collection.
I've got a ton of cheap good games, I was just looking for suggestions and to get a decent list out there. And of course, PS2/Xbox games are about as cheap as they'll go right now. I got the GTA Double Pack for Xbox (III & Vice City) for $10 at a Disc Replay.
Most Genesis games are pretty cheap. PS1 games are generally pretty cheap, except for a few that are a bit more expensive. A lot of Dreamcast games are pretty cheap, but not all of them. Anything not Nintendo or Rare on N64 is generally pretty cheap. Any non-Nintendo game on a Nintendo console is generally pretty cheap, actually - except for things like Final Fantasy. In the US, Xbox and PS2 games are still pretty cheap. PS3/360/Wii games are pretty cheap right now, but if you wait a year or two, they'll probably be even cheaper. Some of the more common Japanese Saturn games are still very cheap. That's all I can think of.
If you're into handhelds, GB/GBC games are about as cheap as you can get. With a few exceptions like the Pokemon games and some rare titles like Shantae, $25 is about the most you're likely to pay for a GB game, and most are in the $5-10 range. Even the really good stuff like the Wario Land games and Link's Awakening don't go for more than $20. Of course, I'm talking about loose carts. CIB games tend to go for a bit more since so many people didn't bother to take care of their Game Boy boxes. In any case, it's a fun system to collect for that's light on the wallet. Even the hardware isn't that expensive in most cases.
A huge amount of hidden gems for the PS2/XBOX can be easily found under 10$, even on ebay. At the moment, the cheap and common popular games for the N64 are expensive. 4 years ago Super Mario 64 was 5 EUR, now 15 Eur is a decent price for that game ( In PAL areas)
In my experience you can pick up most original xbox games for less than £10, except for a few of the rarer titles. The same is true for a lot of ps2 games, except for some of the rare titles. Gamecube games are more expensive, and you can expect to pay more if it's a first party game as well. Other than that, quite a lot of megadrive games are pretty cheap, and most ps1 games can be had for next to nothing (except for some of the more popular games i.e. MGS).
I actually saw it at the Exchange today, for $24. I did grab Speed Devil (DC) and Swagman (PS1, since the Saturn version is Europe only and super super expensive) for $2.50 each.
The Exchange has certain PS1 games for $1. Pretty much all of their disc-based games are CIB as well.
Genesis 6-Pak gets you Sonic 1, Streets of Rage, Columns, Super Hang On, Revenge of Shinobi, and Golden Axe for about $10.
I love Speed Devils, one of the first DC games I bought and still a favourite. Devil May Cry springs to mind as a real bargain, I paid $5 for a MIB copy recently. Halo 2 can be had for under $10, GBA games also seem t o be virtually worthless at the moment.
Except for DOOM II, which I've seen online for around $50, without the case or anything. Very happy I got that so long ago.
