I'm currently in Bangkok and was considering picking up a new 90000 Japanese PS2 for 8,300 bhat (around £70) to use as my main PS2 console back in Europe. I'm pretty sure they accept a 220-240V input, but just wanted to ask what the best modchip for it would be, as I've only ever used swapdisk solutions to play PS2 imports before...
Go for Matrix. It will work. I've seen a 35000 NTSC-J PS2 which had a Matrix inside and it booted all you threw at it.
Matrix will require a resistor. As I recall a Modbo 4.0 works just fine without. I'd trust the Matrix over it though, gonna install one in my SCPH-90003 probably.
Even up buying one for 3,400 without a pad (original post should've read 3,800) - all the small stores here seem to remove the original cables and replace them with knockoff ones. Pretty much all the consoles were chipped anyway... it is Thailand after all. Apparently mine has a Modbo installed. Odd thing is that almost all the new 9000x stock are PAL UK models. I guess they're so hard to find back home due to the entire shipment of them finding their way to Bangkok some way or another.
I ended up paying £30 for mine, console only, and it wasn't even listed properly. So yeah - I believe that to be the case, kinda. There's some inexpensively in Germany I see mind.
When in Bangkok, do try to bargain down the price! Usually the price is marked up for that reason. Pricing reasonable is always around 10~25% off what was indicated. In asia, this is how it works~ They will try to make foreigners pay more to have better profit. Get a local if possible to help u haggle or even make the purchase for you. There was once, few years back.. the pricing given to me for a Nikon Lens was 60% off the stated pricetag on the box!
To be honest the place I got it from was pretty much a foreigner-free underground lair of a place which I stumbled across by mistake. There were a few shops that had lists of the different bundles they offered in Thai and the prices were in line with what I paid. I still need to visit Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, so it'll be interesting to see how prices compare there.
haha, I would welcome you to Singapore! One thing for sure in my country is that bootlegs copies of games/movies are long gone. Due to the strict law and crackdown by the government. Unlike the neighbours Malaysia where its the home of the bootleg industries! Bootleg Xbox 360 games and fake blurays dominate. By the way, should u be keen on any of my stuff/items. U can pick it up directly from me in Singapore! Haha save on those shipping cost.
