I'm a bit torn. For snes/super famicom I MUCH prefer japanese art. Except maybe zelda link to the past. Genesis/megadrive I actually prefer the art from the US releases I don't know about UK box art or anything else. But that's just my opinion on what I've seen so far.
Depends on the game but I usually prefer Jap and then UK/Europe. Take Sonic Cd for example, nice 3D rendered cover for the Jap and Euro releases and then take a look at the US version. It looks like a 5 year old drew the picture for it. Same with Megaman.
i prefer japanese art for anything from the 80s to mid-90s. after that japanese art is still better on average imho, but the gap in quality was getting narrower.
The only drawbacks on Japanese games (PS1/PS2 that is), is the shitty quality of the art on the disc. It's always a one tone color with the disc color being the other one. Looks like a CD-R / DVD-R. Funnily enough, all PS1/PS2 releases in the US have full color art.
I still feel sorry for all the Americans here, mostly because they had to endure truly hideous box art for Panzer Dragoon and Zombie Revenge!
I THINK IM TURNING JAPANESE Japanese japanese japanese u.s box art oh dear. For the md japanese is best The mega drive has great artwork there. compare strider u.s to the japanese one and alisia dragoon as well. but the best is steel empire fantastic.well whatever you like as long as its mega drive who care's anyway I REALLY THINK SO ')
Is this a trick question? or a dumb question or even a question asked by a blind person wearing sunglasses in a dark basement with no lighting?
Oh well - guess I'm one of few, who prefer european coverart, of course with some exceptions here and there.
Actually for the Saturn and I believe the Dc as well, many games released in Europe from japan used the Japanese style cover art while the US versions kept the she-man look. Of course there are 1 or two US covers that DO look better than the Japanese versions however like Tatsujin said, there's not very many. then again it all depends upon your taste I guess. yakumo
I always liked japanese and US boxart for PS2 mainly just because of the spine. PS2 EU PAL games never really had and design on the spines just plain white with just standard text of the game title
I absolutely prefer Japanese boxarts. These days the design related differences between the regions decreased a bit (PS3/Xbox360), but I don't like 99% of the prerendered covers, which includes about 100% of cover artworks today in western countries. While I think the best covers can be found in Famicom/MSX/X68000/PC-Engine collections, their Western versions were probably the most gruesome shit ever to be produced.
I think that about 99% of the people here are going to say that they prefer the Japanese art. While I like Japanese art in small doses, I often find it to be overly busy. On top of that, I get sick and tired of looking at Japanese style all of the time. I really enjoy a lot of the American art. http://www.rhod.fr/ataripics/PacMan_cart_4.jpg Consider that and tell me that it's not rediculously awesome.
Depends on the console i think. This generation there isn't a whole lot of difference between the cover art. I just really like how japanese writing looks.
