I've been looking to aquire an MSX but there's so many variations i have no idea where to bein. I want one with the highest compatability. MSX turbo R?
what? i dont get it. some of have different filters set up on google. a link would have been better...
I didn't even see that. When he said "first page" i thought it said "first pic" and i was like "...perhaps he's saying thats the one to get??"
The Turbo R is nice but there is so few things that do support the Turbo R speed and graphics that you could live without it. It's also much more expensive so unless you really want the features then don't bother, it also lacks a tape port. Otherwise I would go for a Sony F1XDJ an MSX 2+ with all the features that most games would want (it terms of music hardware), plus a hardware pause button (very useful!), autofire speed slider and a slider to slow games down. The Panasonic A1-WSX is another nice machine which again has all the feautres you want plus the Z80 in the MSX engine can be ran at 7Mhz but again unless you are writing software yourself it's fairly useless. You'll find that a lot of people have the F1-XDJ as their main machine, I have one for sale if you're interested. Both of these machines use a fairly standard drive too which means that replacing the drive or replacing the belt drive is a fairly easy to do and find. The drives are also good as if you want to read discs on some drives you will have to use DD discs, and with DD discs become harder to find and MSX discs degrading then you will need another source. These drive will read HD discs that you cover the HD hole with tape, format the disc on a PC, use Discmanager to transfer a .DSK file to the disc and then you can run the software on the MSX, just remember not to let the drive write to the disc. Failing that you could just buy a 1chipMSX but that's not a true MSX, but it will run most games written for the MSX 2.
Is it just me, or hasn´t there been some serious cool looking MSX clones ? or should we say licensed versions also ?
Technically no such thing as an MSX clone (more or less). So many to choose from. My favourite MSX is the Fujitsu FM-X.
Come to think of it, I left a discarded Sanyo Wavy MSX2 (if I remember right) in the rain on my first visit to Japan... not that I would've been able to pack it considering the ridiculous amount of gear I was already carrying, but still a waste.
I know that, so it wasn´t a question about that. and MicroSoft was involved with it too. I have read about it, but still the question was about many of the cool designs some manufactures made to the MSX machine. That is why I said "clones" or licensed versions of that machine.
Yeah microsoft was involved no one said they weren't. MSXDos and yeah there were lots of cool variations of the MSx
