If you want 4 minute load times. Get an AES, hopefully they'll come down in price now that the console is dead. The currently facist sceners will have to come to grips with reality some day.

That might be awhile, neo geo collectors are a hardcore base, whats funny is i mostly see european and pal neo geo consoles for sales these days and rarely any U.S. ones.

What gets me is that EVERY Neo Geo I see sold, has some comment like "Serial # 343432542, this means that it has the best RGB!"

Its cuz US is the best baby. :smt045 :smt083 :smt030

  6. Yeah, for someone who knows a bit about Neo Geo:
What IS the deal with the serial number/RGB correspondence? Is it all bullshit and hokum, or do certain numbers have better RGB when modded to output said signal?

BTW Koolkid, have you seen devilredeemed's ad in the For Sale thread? $165 nets you the Neo, power supply, joystick, and Final Fight. Not a bad deal I don't think - I'd definately spring for it had I the money... :smt009

I don't know the exact specfics, NFGman (Lawrence) around? but I do know that every single Neo seller now has something great to say about their serial number [thanks a lot neo-geo.com! (bitch)] I do know that you can replace the old RGB encoder with a later pincompatible model to output better Svideo/composite, but I'm not sure if you can easily modify the RGB output. If you cared enough, I'm sure you could build a RGB amp and tweak it for the "best" picture.

The thing that gets me is that SHOULDN'T be a good deal. Neo Geos are horribly overpriced in this day in age. Many of their games' "value"s haven't changed over the last 10 years since their suggested retail price, thats crazy. The Neo scene (specifically neo-geo.com) literally dictates the suggested prices now, I don't think I'm the only one thats annoyed by this.

  8. SNK realised that the main market for the AES was the US, who generaly don't use RGBScart. So the videochip was changed to give a better composite output, which meant the RGB quality was reduced. To be sure of the best RGB, you need one of the first 90,000 AES units.

If you're gonna play Neo games off a CD, don't get a NeoCD. Get the Saturn/PS2/Xbox conversions. Or indeed, buy the NeoCD games, and wait for the DCNeoCD emu to get better.

Go for an MVS. The actual machine may cost more to begin with to get a Supergun of some description (or build it), joystick and an MVS board. But the games will be soooo much cheaper in the long run.

  9. Yeh, I agree NeoGeo systems and accessories are way, way WAY over the top, which is probably the biggest reason I don't have one. :smt043 And I haven't spent too much time on neo-geo.com or looking at the Neo community, but just the idea that these people were willing and able to spend that kind of money on games and systems marked them as a bit elitist (not to mention far more rich than me.) I share your hope that with the console's death, they all move onto the Atomiswave or something and let the price on a 10+ year old console drop to what it should be.

If I had a Neo AES (I don't now) I'd make sure to replace the video encoder with a nicer (but pin-compatible) CXA2075.

It is ridiculess the price they still go for these days, i know its the arcade experiance and all, but its stuff that shouldn't cost over $60 if its 12 year old, and the prices are extremely fixed, and if theres a debug bios installed in it, or a video mod, all of a sudden the price jumps up a $100. Its ridiculess and probably the only reason i will never own a neo geo for awhile(which sucks since they had some real classics on there).

Thats another thing that gets me because Neo sceners are supposed to be such elite purists its strange they don't mind all those ugly video mods. If I had a brand new AES, I'd only play it through an inch of bubblewrap.

  13. Yeah, Neo Geo is damn overpriced and very elitist. Especially as there's very few games worth getting.

I've only got my MVS for the few decent shmups - BalzingStar,Pulstar, Last Resort etc, the 6 Metal Slugs, 3 Sengokus and maybe a couple of fighters. There's no way I'd spend £600 on AES BlazingStar, when I can get the MVS cart for about £30 or so, and bang it in a nice shockbox with insert and a cart sticker.

Also, about 5 games I want - ShockTroopers, 1945+, Prehistoric Isle2 etc are only available on MVS. No way I'd pay a rediculous price for converted AES versions of these.

It's the whole business of the Mahjong AES controller going for at least $1000+ that confuddles me.....

There are two (major) revisions of Neo board... one has a daughterboard, the other doesn't. That is where your graphics quality thing lies. They are totally different boards, much like the v3 and v4 PS2s.

If I were in the market, I'd be after the later board then... daughterboards suck.

If I ever get a AES, phantom 1, and a few MVS & AES carts, I'll be sure to make myself a RAM cartridge >:)

some of you should take a cold shower or something. chill out, it's not like neo geo sceners as you put it ar all the same and elite (infact elitists make up a very small minority of the 9000+ members of ng.com) - and there are tons of affordable and great games (especially japanese software). and there is literally shit loads of games worth getting.

there are other systems that remain expensive on the market - its not just the neo geo. Jesus, I hate it when people go off on a tangent like this.
So there's alot of bullshit and drama, you shouldn't take it so seriously.

Woo, it's my turn to throw out SNK/Neo Geo opinions.

I only own NGPC, so uh...keep that in mind.

    NGPC is totally freaking awesome.

Neo Geo, though cool, is still too expensive for my tatste. I want one, but paying around 200 bucks for a really old console seems nuts. In addition, I do find it weird how much they modify them. It's damn near impossible to find one without 10,000 added ports and mods. I like my consoles in stock factory condition, thank you very much.

The neo geo is one of the most amazing peices of hardware ever designed , period!

It has some of the most unbelievable peices of software ever designed on it as well.Don't forget this stuff was so far ahead of it's time when it came out and has the right to a fan community. It's not like it's harming anyone so chill out and just let it be.

As for this Stinky-Dinkins, would someone please put a ban on this wanker immediately.
