I have a RetroDuo, it's ok but it's not great, i want a real SNES. i may get the Retron5 but that'll be way down the line.

I sold my PAL SNES a while back, but I now want one again.

So being a snes noob, I'm asking:

What is my best option to look at for a multi region Super Nintendo/Famicom?

I want it to be able to play Games from all regions US/PAL/JP, I have no problem with modding one myself so that's not an issue, but what is the best console to buy?

a super famicom? a US SNES? or a PAL SNES?

one deciding factor is atleast the cart slot.
JP / euro machines require the cart slot to be widened or US carts will not fit.

not sure if there's actually any other notable differences in them. Maybe something in modding procedures or something, im hardly an expert :p

I'd thought about a US SNES for that reason, but they be damn ugly, fugly even compared to the JP/PAL models

    True.

i use a PAL snes for the form factor myself, even though i did consider the US one for US carts, but decided to just stick with PAL instead.
It plays euro/jp carts as is and the 60Hz mod makes it not needed to use US games to begin with, you can just play the euro versions.

the odd US rom i wanna play, i just play with powerpak :)

That doesn't look too bad but I'd just be worried of the GameShark-like form factor. Most adapters like that usually are quite the pain in the ass in my experience.

I'd have to agree what was said above: get a SNES JR. I personally use a FC Twin albeit being a Famiclone and not being compatible with EVERY game; however, I just took the region lock tabs out with a set of pliers and I can play both my imports and my US SNES games. Getting to the point though, the FC Twin uses the same form factor (for the most part) as the SNES JR so I would imagine even just removing the plastic tabs in the SNES JR would give you the same effect as it is in the FC Twin.

Imo the SNES jr is as ugly as the 1st american SNES. I would never want to trade my 1-chip Super Famicom for such an abomination. Still from an functional perspective the SNES jr is the wisest choice.

    Really?

I hate the US large snes, but I think the Jr looks fantastic. The Super Famicom jr is awesome too, but you still have the cart slot issue.

Idk but to me this looks like a cheap china knockoff clone console, I personally really don't like this design which makes sense because it's designed by the same guy that also is to blame for the american NES and SNES design.

I tend to agree, although from checking pricing i don't think a SNES jr is very accessible for me right now, I think I might just go with a cheap SFC or PAL SNES and mod it or maybe a US one, lol

Get an Everdrive. Saves the tabs on your boxes getting worn, too! :p
