Hey guys! Does anyone know the best place to buy cheap PC hardware in Japan? In Australia, Umart was first choice and in the USA, Newegg. Does anyone know of something similar for Japan? I've found a few Japanese online stores, but they don't seems to be near as cheap as the two other online stores I mentioned. It's entirely possible being Japan, that the cheapest stores are brick and mortar only. In which case, where should I be going? I went to a few places in Akiba, but nothing really stood out to me.
Cheap PC hardware is Japan? Lol. Sorry but you won't find PC stuff here for the bargain bin prices youbfind in the west. Best bet is to try somewhere like a PC build store such as Applied or go for one of the custom order PC deals on Yahoo Auctions. You can get a pretty good tower set up for about 60 to 70000 yen.
Not looking to build a system, I'm looking for components and accessories (i.e CPUs, GPUs, monitors UPS etc). The sort of thing you'd normally go to Umart or Newegg for.
Even Amazon Japan isn't that cheap compared to the west. Basically anything PC wise here is more than you'd expect. The store Applied sells everything you'll need for a PC from CPUs, GPUs, cases and cooling systems.
Amazon JP seems pretty good so far, but I haven't really checked for PC components yet. Is Applied a bricks and mortar store?
The normal places like Softmap and Yodobashi are usually priced similar to Newegg. I prefer just ordering from Newegg, Amazon or Tigerdirect.
In my experience, Sofmap and Yodobashi are way more expensive than a Newegg as they are closer to retail. You need to go to Tsukumo and the like for more discounted pricing in a brick & mortar.
Stupidly high shipping costs negate the benefit there except for getting the latest parts which Japan is typical late in importing.
Is THIS their online store? Their prices do seem quite decent, rather close to Umart's prices at home. Speaking of Umart, their website's design is rather similar.
Yup, they have a reasonable return policy for defective parts too. You can buy additional compatibility insurance where they will let you exchange open items.
Speaking of returns policies, how are they for monitors with dead/stuck pixels? Most stores in Australia will let you return a monitor if you find any dead or stuck pixels, though this is often limited to a seven day period.
Never had to do that but with Tsukumo, they have a dedicated return center in Akihabara where you can show them the issues. Within a week, they usually will help you out but you will need to be able to explain your issue in Japanese.
So I take it that means it's no problem to return a monitor even with a single dead/stuck pixel then?
