I am serving my nation, indeed. But I get to book out of the camp during the weekends. I won't be doing coding though, so that effectively makes me retired.
Yes, you need the network adapter for the (fat) PS2 to use the hard drive. You can use almost any IDE hard drive (I use a 240GB or so). Sp193, thanks from me to, for your work on the PS2. Using a PS2 without having to load from disc is fantastic!
You need to put the ISO's in subfolders. You cant just put a share then use that. Make a share, make sub folders called CD and DVD, then name the isos's correctly. http://opl.sksapps.com/index.php?opl=net_install.html
Trust me, I set everything up correctly. I don't think I have the right cables, I had an Ethernet cord hooked from the PS2 to the PC. Even tried with the IP address settings and stuff, but when I tried it I was using Vista, upgraded to Win7 a few months back. (Windows 8, ugh, terrible)
Direct connection to PC with 100mbit ethernet card needs crossover cable. Gigabit ethernet should have auto-negotiation.
I heard things about the 10000 and 15000 being unreliable. Any comment on this? I have a 39003 with a DMS3 Plus myself and it works pretty well. Isn't loud or hot like my previous 3000* have been and doesn't have the laser coil issues of the 5000* onwards. Not a fan of the slim models either.
A Network Adapter for my SCPH-30004 would definitely be nice. I've just got some question about it: Do you know for sure if any IDE hard disks are not compatible with it? Can I set up the hard disk with FMCB or do I need a hard disk utility from Sony? Last question, would a US Network Adapter work with my PS2?
Some drives are mechanically incompatible. Some WDs afaik. I have Samsung 250. Works well. http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=list US NA will work (I have one). But it's larger, I wish I had smaller one without needless 56k modem. You only need a PC or uLaunchELF to format a drive.
It depends on how you view it. I think that the construction quality (mainly the plastic chassis) feels better than my SCPH-39006's, but then the CD/DVD tray seems to be prone to jamming up and it seems like there might have been a problem with its clock generator chips (Of course, this might be just due to age, since they are a fair bit older than any of the other launch PS2s). They are also the hottest consoles ever (50W!). Personally, I think that they should be kept as a collectors' item now. Their numbers are decreasing, they probably aren't the most reliable consoles (New revisions are made to fix problems too) and they are hard to maintain. Lose its laser, and getting a new one (KHS-400A) may be close to impossible. The same thing goes for the rest of its mainboard, especially since the leaked service manuals are not really helpful for servicing these models. On my end, I found the fact that some of them came from several factories (that don't seem to usually produce PS2 consoles) interesting. The network adaptor's origin doesn't matter. The expansion interface is not region-locked. You can even get a Japanese network adaptor, and it'll work.
Hi have 2 pal Launch model never had a problem every few years to clean the lens and still work its a v3 and i have all versions i would say the build is first consoles.
I have a SCPH-10000, and it's still completely playable. The drive seems like it's a little slow to open, and sometimes it takes a little longer than normal to boot a game. But once the game's running it's fine. I used to have another 10000 that would only play CD-based games, but not DVD-based games. This one plays all games. It's my only working Japanese console, and I'm not the kind of person who region mods my consoles, so it's my only option for playing Japanese games.
That could my problem as I have a Western Digital, it came with my PC back in 2008. Maybe I should try SeaGate as I hear they're good HDD's. OPL or ESDL will play any region game on any console so that way you don't have to mod it. I'm assuming you're talking about hardmods instead of FMCB.
i prefer the 7000x model myself with a sata hdd adapter never had issues with it has a DMS4 installed just not sure if i needed to do a drive protection mod been so many years tho and never use drive anyway jus HDD
